Re: Karpaz Gate Marina

How does the song go "I second that emotion". Or should it be "I second that motion"

[QUOTE=svBeBe;1058078]

the other tested the limits of every marina rule, including painting his hull while berthed...fortunately he did not spill any paint which could have ruined his neighbors boat.

BeBe - If you wish to use my name please do not be afraid to do so. Unless of course you believe your accusations to be shall we say not quite true. If you had an issue why did you not point it out direct or bring it up on the morning net. Why wait to hide behind the face of this forum.

I remember some one on the morning net bringing up the subject of vessels not using the marina facilities and dumping their waste into the marina.

I read the other comments in this thread and I have to say that there are some people that are either uninformed, misinformed, inexperienced, have an agenda, or simply have a chip on their shoulder.

BeBe- The subject matter has turned to something you know little about or were not involved in. Three vessels had Gelcoat works done to them by KGM two of them have major problems. The condition of the third vessels gelcoat is not known. No doubt you can enlighten us as you were quite friendly with them and may well still be in contact.

A fourth vessel has damage to its deck from neglect by the marina and it's contractors.

and finally, there is a major issue associated with a 5th vessel which may well involve some serious legal proceedings.

[QUOTE=svBeBe;1058078]

I was recently asked by Jimmy Cornell which was the best marina we had experienced during our circumnavigation. I said, Karpaz Gate Marina. I meant it then and will continue to say it.

BeBe - I hate to imagine some of the marina's you have been in!!!

Re: Karpaz Gate Marina

Just catching up as I was in Karpaz Gate Marina during the EMYR 2012 rally. Sorry to see that you are still having problems with your gel coat repairs Peter. I saw another catamaran in Marmaris when I was there in August and he told a similar story.

Unfortunately your posting has been hijacked - people should send PMs rather than attack each other on the worldwide web. Must agree however, that if there is a problem with another yachtie, then go round and speak to them first, if that doesn't work then go the marina staff.

It would be nice to know where these people plan to overwinter 2013/2014 so I can make sure I book my yacht into a different marina!

Re: Karpaz Gate Marina

Well Hello there Nav Woman,

Long time since we heard from you.

Yes unfortunately the gelcoat work is very very bad and after inspection by specialist in Turkey who said it had been applied incorrectly, we are allowing the the staff at KGM to have another go if this one does not work out then it will be time for a big REFUND in order for me to get it done elsewhere.

Another problem here is that the water is now SALTY and BROWN in colour. Seems there is a problem with the desalination unit and hopefully it will be fixed any day now???

We met up with a few people on our travels that we knew as we sailed along the Turkish coast-very pleasant. We shall be going back to explore further.

I did not write the previous posting but will chime in now. Bill did speak directly to the owner of the boat doing the sanding. So did the boat across the dock directly behind us. The dust was inside both our boats every day. But we could clean it and it wasn't that big a deal to me; just something that most marinas would not allow and we were surprised that KGM did not make the boat doing this work move to the outer wall.

As for a "sewage smell" from our yacht, the only sewage anyone might have smelled was the grey water bilge which empties automatically when the tank reaches 11 gallons. That is galley dishwater, the same thing that goes directly overboard from most boats. And, yes, dirty dishwater stinks to high heaven. Nothing we can do about that nasty smell and apologies are in order to any marina neighbors. But black water was never discharged from our boat in any marina. That is disgusting.

!
The third vessel you mention must be our friends from Chile and we are still in contact with them. Their gelcoat problem was that the boat was lifted before the new gelcoat had thoroughly dried and the lifting straps left marks in the new gelcoat. KGM effected satisfactory repair and the boat was launched. KGM had offered to remove all the new gelcoat and start over, but our friend was satisfied with the repair. They remain quite satisfied with the work performed at KGM. The difference, IIRC, might be that the gelcoat used on our friend's boat was supplied by him, not obtained by the marina. His gelcoat was not from the same batch used by the marina on the other 2 boats.

Hopefully Peter will be satisfied with the re-work.

Judy
