HELP! Sailing Capri and Amalfi Coast

Greetings! We are sailing a Lagoon 450 for a week in early September out of Castellammare di Stabia, south of Naples.

Expecting to moor, anchor or dock in Procida, Capri and at points along the Amalfi Coast.

We've heard that in this busy season, it may be difficult to secure berths. Can anyone provide their experience and/or references to nice marinas/anchorages in these sailing area? Greatly appreciating anyone's help.

Thank you!

Re: HELP! Sailing Capri and Amalfi Coast

Hi Ronjde,

Don't worry because from the 1st of September is much much quieter here. I'm from Sorrento and August is really busy, from Castellammare to Capri it's like an Highway.
From September you will enjoy the area, Procida is very nice, Ischia too and you will find a berth in Casamicciola, Capri I do not suggest to enter in the Port and stay outside Marina Piccola, Positano has no Harbour and Amalfi I suggest as Capri. If you can I will really suggest to go to Palinuro and Camerota 60 miles from Capri, one of the best places in the Mediterraneo.

Ciao and feel free to ask,

Maurizio

I would anchor off ischia near the castle and take a sail to ventotine, one of the more beautiful islands for a swim and great food and probably free docking alongside as well

Re: HELP! Sailing Capri and Amalfi Coast

There is a perfect mooring as well as a marina at Porto Miseno, on the continent opposite of Ischia. Take care of the old steel mussel raising structures on the north side of the bay. Especially the first of the structures is now invisible under the water, only marked by a small and a big white buoy (in 2014). Getting your anchor fouled there is not pleasant. Don't ask me how I know that.

Re: HELP! Sailing Capri and Amalfi Coast

Mr F,
We had an awesome sail. Left castledelamare and sailed to procida (anchor just outside breakwater), ischia (marina), Capri (tow nights in very nice but expensive marina), and positano (mooring). Did our trip in late September and the conditions were super. Bay of Naples can get a little rough but generally great sailing conditions. I have heard summer is a bit more crowded so marinas may be a bit more busy but the help from locals and dock hands (especially when docking med style) was great. The ports we hit were a nice mix of quaint (procida, which by the way is postcard beautiful), to luxurious (Capri: a must but very busy and commercial). Positano was my favorite but I'd probably do the exact same voyage next time! Need any other info feel free to ask
