Re: Greece Reciprocal Tax for non-EU boats (not the cruising tax)

When we hauled out in Leros last year we were told by the PP there we couldnt leave the boat behind because of this new 6 months rule. Now it seems to have evolved to at least exclude time spent out of use on a hardstand so for us that's a slight improvement - no fine when we get back whatever it is.

Who knows what we will come back to - these guys dont know if they are arthur or martha half the time.

Its worse now. We have an admission from the Shipping and finance ministry that was wrong. We got as far with the old government of getting a review on the law which is utterly incompatible to the European Customs Union. It needs to be in line with other members of the Union as a NON EU yacht can enter anywhere in the EU and the clock runs from there, no matter was country within the union.

We are attempting to pick up from where we left off with the old government...

Countries try this from tone to time. Usually they end up in they ECJ and get face slapped

The complaint to the commission will be made in one week. It is remarkably easy to do.

Very interested in the outcome of this. Thank you for taking the lead on this issue.

Re: Greece Reciprocal Tax for non-EU boats (not the cruising tax)

A small update.

1. On behalf of the Cruising Association (CA), Chris has made the objection to the EU Commission concerning non-EU boats only being permitted a 6 month out of 12 afloat in Greece. We await results.

2. As of July 2014, the transit log tax was cancelled. CA assumes this was in anticipation of TPP - which still hovers in the background, drowned in the noise of banker's arguments about debts.

3. All this is, including latest news about Turkish regulations, published for general nautical use on Recent news items | CA . A team of us keep this up to date using our CA local representatives and other contacts we've cultivated.
