France Inland - Haul Out and Storage Yards

Hi, all, and thanks for all of the great info.

Can anyone advise yards to store on the hard anywhere near Paris, and Dijon and Canal du Midi ?

Or a guide/website for haul-out, repair, and storage on the hard in France ?

Thanks, Dennis

Re: France Inland - Haul Out and Storage Yards

Hi Dennis,
Ther is approximately 500 miles in a straight line between Paris, Dijon and the Canal du Mid). Close to 750 on a waterway.
Along the route there are multiple haul out / storage - on average 60 / 80 miles apart.
If you can give more detail (weight / length / preferred location) I'll look them up for you.
Cheers
JOHN

Re: France Inland - Haul Out and Storage Yards

Thanks, John - I've consulted your great blog many times. No emil addr tho.
I have a winter res at the Arsenal, but not sure about leaving boat unattended for 5 months. Need to find/consider dry storage nearby Paris, then again near Dijon for next winter, and Midi the year next. Can't find boatyard directories.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Cruising Breskens-Paris Sept /D

Re: France Inland - Haul Out and Storage Yards

Hi Dennis,
I've not used any of these facilities so it might be sensible to use the Brit site ybw.com to ask if anyone has current actual experiences.
These a yard close by Paris on the Haute Seine at Villeneuve Le Roi.
Two near Dijon at Sainte Usage on Soane / Burgundy canal junction and Migennes on Yonne / Burgundy junction.
And at Le Somail on the Canal du Midi.
There are many more - suggest you try and get 'Fluvial - Le Guide du plaisancier' which lists them all. Its an annual magazine type booklet - printed in France - ISSN 0755 5180.
Enjoy
JOHN

Re: France Inland - Haul Out and Storage Yards

Hi Guys,

here is a link to the french phone directory (yellow pages)>

PagesJaunes : Annuaire des professionnels

Once you are on the page fill the search box 1rst window with either chantier naval (shipyard) or hivernage bateau ( wintering storage for boat).

Then fill the 2nd search box withe the county number of the area you are looking the service, or the name of the city close to the service you are looking for.

For Paris it is 75, and the surrounding counties, from 91 to 95.

For Dijon area, it is 21...

You have some option to perform a search as close by the area you mention, or suroundings cities and or counties.

If you select the PAR LA CARTE tab, you can choose an area on the map of France by dragging a selection box over the map to define the area of search...

Hope this wil help.

Re: France Inland - Haul Out and Storage Yards

Thank you, Eric,
Your detailed suggestion is a great one, as I have not been able to locate any source for Le Guide du Plaisancier.
Also hoping to find referrals from boaters who have actually used the yards.
Best wishes, Dennis

Re: France Inland - Haul Out and Storage Yards

You-re welcome Dennis,

Another advise for the Paris area, you should browse and focuse the search on the river Seine area, as most of the shipyards and winter storage areas for boat are traditionnaly located.

The main city next to Paris for the river boats (merchant boats called peniches) is Conflans Sainte Honorine. This is the capital city for french river merchant boat

You may not find services for leisure boat in Conflans but certainly some professionnals that will be able to guide you to leisure boats shipyard in the area.

Last one, the more you are away from Paris, the less expensive it-ll be.

I know there is a small marina with an equally small shipyard close to Gaillon / Venables / Fontaine la verte, west to Paris, along the Seine river, ther must be more.

Then you have Rouen area, the next one where you should find the facilities you are looking for.

Good search.
