Dubrovnik to Corfu

Are there good cruising grounds between these points of interest. My husband and I will be sailing there in July and wanting to go down the coast and stop along the way to Corfu. Any suggestions would be most helpful. Or if anyone knows of a different route that should be taken.
Thank you!

Re: Dubrovnik to Corfu

There are a lot of sailors here that have done that trip many times for a long period. We went from Corfu to Dubrovnik in one shot, then Montenegro back to Corfu, skipping Albania. IMO, the Bay of Kotor is a MUST see location and you should spend at least a week there. For the rest I can't say.

If your interested, I'd also say that Corfu is an island that can easily be passed in favor of Paxos and all the other Ionian's.

I second the Bay of Kotor - amazing!

There is some small islands north of corfu, which make a good starting / arrival point. One of them has a huge sandy bay (open to the south), where you can also easily arrive during the night.

In addition to the Gulf of Kotor, I'd suggest Budva and Bar in Montenegro are worth a visit. In Albania, Durres, Orikum and Sarande are really functional ports of call rather than must-see destinations. See the World Cruising Wiki for details on all these ports.

Re: Dubrovnik to Corfu

We are going to do something similar this year. But first we sailed northbound and had a great time and Montenegro is nice but very expensive for a cruising permit and you need some type of certification as they will ask for it and without it you may be asked to leave.

We will sail from Brindisi to Schenjgin, Albania and then make stops in Durres, Orkium and Sarande on the way to Corfu. Last year we stopped in both Schenjgin and Orikum. We really like Albania and the people were great. A bit rough, except Orikum but a wonderful country.

Chuck,
It would be great if you posted some more detailed info on Albania and maybe some pictures of the ports and sea sides in a new thread. There have been so few (zero?) first hand reports here on CF. Happy sailing.
David.

FWIW, here is my son at the pool club at Porto Montenegro. Apparently it is quite an experience.

Re: Dubrovnik to Corfu

I would like to share some pics but they are on my old computer and it crashed and need a good person to get it back. In the meantime I did transfer all my files over before the crash to my new ASUS computer with windows 8 and had a problem with wifi after I left the USA and ASUS said I had to reinstall windows and it wiped out all the data and all the work I did to install opencpn and winlink and it did not solve the problem.
If I can find someone along the road to help I will post some pics

and we are now underway in Pantelleria Italy

Re: Dubrovnik to Corfu

I am planning the same trip for late June. I will stop in Marina Montenegro in the Gulf of Kotor to fill-up with tax-free diesel.

I spent almost a week last year in the Gulf of Kotor and thought it was wonderful, particularly Kotor itself which is at the end of the last fjord.
