Dry Storage in Mediterranean Coastal Countries

Anywhere I can find a place (not too "cher") between France, Italy , even Tunisia , etc to haul out a 40 footer for 6-9 months a year? And not have to strip everything off of value while I'm away?
Marina's places are really limited. And I'd feel better if the boat's on land.

That's a big area and you might not want the same place all the time. Port St Louis has two hal-out yards (Navy Service and Port Napoleon) which are both commonly used for this purpose. We are trying Malta later this year. Lots of people have found Alghero or Furtilia (sp>) in Sardinia very congenial. Depending on your requirements, don't forget that quite a few places have limited winter flights.

We have seen Naviservice in 2008: It was one of the most horrible places we have ever seen, dirty, no service, lousy toilets... we would not feel safe for our boat there, it is ONLY a dry storage place
Port Napoleon can be recommended: Good service, well organized, safe,
however a little bit more expensive, dry and water storage

If you go easterward, in Greece and Turkey, you would have more choices. In Turkey, for example, Yat Marina in Marmaris can receive about 1500 boats on land. In Greece, it wil be much smaller spots (Aegina, Leros, North of Lavrio...) but it could be very nice (and safe) too.
Forget Italy : a few spots on land and a lot of very expensive marinas...

We didn't like Navy Service either, not least because we thought the crane looked old and not well cared for. But we know lots of people who have been very satisfied with the care of their boats, including spending periods of time aboard, and it is undoubtedly very cheap!

You could take a look at Manoel Island Yacht Yard in Malta. we left our boat there winter 2005. The haul and storage was cheap enough, and the security was ok, but you will need a dehumidifier, and it is very dusty.
The big downside was that the yard was (badly) govt run. If you need any work done, it will take forever, productivity is low, and it's impossible to get a firm quote.

Hi Roaring Girl,

Sorry this is a bit of a hijack but you seem to be cruising in Europe right now.

Do you have to check out of France and in to Italy as you move eastwards in the Med? And vice versa as you move westward?

I have read somewhere that because both France and Italy are in the EU there is no need.

Any thought?
