Buy and live aboard in the Med

Nearly ready to go fot it.
Was planning to sail my Centaur to Greece over a couple of seasons but now feel it would be better to buy something about 30ft in situ and enjoy the Med while in relatively good health.
Have a few Euro put aside and wonder whats the best way to buy to avoid any headaches re ownership, necessary paperwork. As I plan to port hop around the Med I, m happy to buy in any EU country.
All advice welcime.

I'd invest in something in the UK rather than buy in the Med.. your budget is likely gonna turn up boats that have sat in the water year round for years.. UV degradation.. low maintainance holiday cottages afloat.. Unless your 'few euro's' stashed will get you something less than 10yrs old.
If you were happy enough with your Centaur to consider it worthy.. take a look at the Longbow.. the advantage of UK boats is in the main they spend 5-7mths a year ashore every winter.
But most importantly your not expected to pay the 'Med Premium'..

Céad míle fáilte to the cruising life. (Tullamore)

It will get complicated getting a boat in the Med with the different regs etc. Price wise, boats in the UK are cheaper. The only boats I look at for purchase in Spain area are brit registered for that reason.....but too expensive. Boatie gave you the other reason to not get a Med boat...... so I wont add.

Lots of good priced 30 footers vessels around in the Uk... almost a leveler in price for a good Centaur. 10K will get you a cracker.

I did the UK-France-Portugal-Spain-Mallorca route a few years back and loved it.....going round instead of through France was fantastic. It will also give time to see what happens to Greece and the expanding threat from people who don't like the western way of life. If you find Greece is temporarily off the agenda, at least your in the Spain-France-Italy-Islands playground.

Re: Buy and live aboard in the Med

You would not be looking at westerly if going to the Med.Unless you are good at getting headlining to re-adhere to the deck head.
This is not to decry these many excellent vessels. Many have transited the world, and by diligent maintenance, have managed to still look presentable.
Many boats live on the hard, most of the time in Bouches du Rhone, often owned by elderly folk who have maintained them well.
Some bring them back to Northern Europe, but some ,at least, offer them for sale ,through brokerage.
Google Maritima Courtage to have an idea of which boats may suit.temperatures reach 28/40 C in South of France, usually 30C midday. So big deck space and many hatches are more important for dining Al fresco.
The present exchange rates make prices look good for a $ or £ purchaser.
Additionally, the boat may well be on a registry like France or Italy, which will resolve some of the latent problems of foreign ownership.( others may know more especially honest brokers,if that's not an oxymoron.
