Bottom needs cleaning & paint

I had planned to have Dauntless hauled out this week to put new anti fouling paint on.

Just discovered that we're too fat for the boatyard here, with a 4.8m beam.

They suggested it may be cheaper to do it in the UK, or even further along in the cruise this summer, even waiting till I get to Poland.

I'm open to any suggestions.

Thanks for the help.

I wonder if the sealifts could do it instead of lifting. They will certainly do antifouling.

Sealift2 - Welcome

Which way are you going? Through the Channel or over the top/Caledonian Canal?

@Dauntlessny,

Many good suggestions.!
Suppose it depends how rapid or slow your passage will be.
If me I think I'd wait until Poland and do it there depending upon my goals of destinations and timing.
Additionally,if bottom a mess I'd pull it soon.
Whatever your choice -fair weather.

All the Best

Hello Richard,

Try New Ross Boatyard. Not far from Waterford, they have a 40t travel lift, 20ft. Also a launch-recovery trailer and dry dock.
Contact Denise on 051 447655

Best of luck

John

Try the yard where I keep my boat. Fox's Marina Full service or DIY no problem. As I'm secretary of Fox's Marina Yacht Club I'll buy you a beer!

90 miles to The Netherlands or Belgium.

Why would you go to a boat yard when you can careen with the tide?

Can he? He may have a bottom type that most of it would sit pretty flat leaving a lot inaccessible?

If you sit on logs, it should be possible to access the entire hull in two tides with any bottom type.

Re: Bottom needs cleaning & paint

Depended on available staff, it could take a fair few tides to scrub, and antifoul Dauntess. There's a fair amount of real estate down there

It's one thing drying a fin keeled boat against a wall, but a Mobo with a relatively flat bottom. No thanks, I don't want to get squashed!

Re: Bottom needs cleaning & paint

I like the idea of docking in a harbor that dries out; it'll certainly save me a lot of money that at this point is a big priority.

I would have to tie the boat to the dock in a way that it settles evenly on its keel.

Though I have been tide grounded twice and other than the 30 heel, no other issues.
