The batteries inside that box are available from Balqon on clearance for $462 each, so you could save about $800 by doing without their nice box.

It appears to be a typo. The same weight is listed for the 1000AH box, which makes sense in that case. For 700AH, it makes no sense. I think they copy and pasted and then forgot to edit the weight.

I looked at it also, but after seeing the weight I stopped.
What do you think the weight is for that 700ah bank?

The 700AH batteries are 21kg each. 84kg is 185 lbs.

Re: LiFePO4 Batteries: Discussion Thread for Those Using Them as House Banks
I thought the weight was a little strange as well.
What do they mean by " Battery Management System: Individual cell balancing (temperature, voltage), CAN BUS output "
???

Re: LiFePO4 Batteries: Discussion Thread for Those Using Them as House Banks
Also I wonder if they have new cells in them or ones that have been sitting around for a couple of years ?

Re: LiFePO4 Batteries: Discussion Thread for Those Using Them as House Banks
I agree. CAN bus is probably not of much use in a boat. In theory, if manufacturers of boat electrics (batteries, inverters, gensets, alternators, solar panels, DC-DC converters, etc. were to start incorporating CAN bus support, then we might be able to do something interesting with it, such as optimally switching on and off a genset. However, I don't expect ever to see CAN bus adopted for boating.

Looks like they have great prices on there clearance cells. I wonder if they are just old stock and if they would have the same cycle life expectancy ??

Ummm, the last time I checked, NMEA 2000 was CAN bus based, and it seems to be in quite widespread use on boats ;-) Volvo Penta seem to be providing CAN interfaces on their engines...
In the context of this thread, some smart chargers already have CAN bus interface too.
