Charge sources / regulators suitable for LFP

Seems many believe this is a big obstacle to adopting LFP.

Half the battle is deciding what you really want.

User custom Absorb setpoint?

No Absorb or minimum Absorb time?

Stop charge, no Float? Or user-adjustable Float voltage?

Go to Float (or stop) based on endAmps?

And do you mean alt VR, or solar or mains chargers?

I'm not saying all are cheaply or easily available, but then I keep getting blowback saying the ideal recommendations are not needed anyway.

First decide what aspects of the charge profile are most important to you, and then research among the potential candidates, what you may need to compromise on.

And then don't complain about pricing, obviously all the ancillary infrastructure is going to cost as much or more than the bank.

Just as all the upfitting of a boat may cost more than the boat did bare.

Lay out **your** requirements first - let's use **other** threads to discuss the issues **if** you're not yet sure,

keep this thread for just examining the different hardware choices, compared to the user needs specified.

Re: Charge sources / regulators suitable for LFP

A reminder, .01C or whatever endAmps specification for stopping charging or going to Float, is Lead Thinking.

Absolutely no point in a CV / Absorb stage for daily cycling of LFP.

Just choose your target voltage and Stop when you hit it.

Re: Charge sources / regulators suitable for LFP

Following gear on our yacht was adapted to LFP suitable practice without purchasing different gear:
Victron multi inverter/charger (120/12/3000) was programmable, although I couldn't set absorb time less than 1hr unless I upgraded firmware.
Dingo 20A solar controller has a fully user customisable charge program.
Suoerwind 350 generator as a trimpot to adjust the max voltage before it starts sending charge to dump resistors instead of battery. And you swap out the thermistor with a resistor to get rid of temperature varied charging too.

If we relied on diesel alternator charging a lot then would need to swap out the existing pb start battery to house battery VSR with a LFP specific unit. Intervolt make a nice programmable unit for which you can set the voltages as you wish. But we just manually switch isolate the house From the start battery and let the engine alternators have any easy time of it mostly.

So we were fortunate our conversion just involved a lot of research and tweaking what we had. Half the fun I guess! You may or may not be so lucky in your conversion to LFP house power...
