Where's the Best Place You've Sailed ?

Where is the best place you have sailed and why was it the best? (I.e. the adventure, the journey, the beauty, the friends, etc.)

Bahamas: clear water, beautiful anchorages and sailing, friendly locals and cruisers, interesting navigation, tons of places to go both on and off the beaten track. You can be anchored all by yourself one night and having a potluck on the beach with a dozen other boats the next night.

Re: Where is the best place you have sailed?

Hard to choose just one:

I second the Bahamas, especially the beauty of the Exumas, partying with other cruises in the Abacos.

- Bequia/Mystique/Tortugas

- Oahu, especially on the windward side. Exhilerating and beautiful.

- St. Martin. Really like the little islands to the east.

God, I wish I was at one of them right now instead of sitting at a desk in Washington, D.C.

Happy 4th, everyone.

I like Bermuda for the five day sail here and the welcome at St. George's Dinghy Club when you get here.

Having only sailed in Cape Cod, MA or the British Virgin Islands, I'd have to say the BVI!

Re: Where is the best place you have sailed?

aFter 11 year on the ground...Ft Lauderdale and Miami, my boat(Blue Moon) and his crew should be ready to set sail for the next season(winter), best places where I used to sail,
Trinidad, Venezuela(Tortuga, Margarita and peninsula de Paria)don't go there!
San Vincent and the Grenadines, Bequia, Salt wistle Bay, mayerau, St Kitt, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and my favorites are the Bahamas with Exumas and Eleuthera, thats where im going next, maybe a trip to San Blas before its too late, but Bahamas are definitely my favorites, so many islands, people are really nice,Cristal clear water, fishing is amazing and sailing in shallow banks is exhilarating, wind and no waves, great!

Re: Where is the best place you have sailed?

We just started sailing this year and we've only been on the east coast of Florida, we had a blast in Vero Beach, I have to say the people we have met in Florida have been awesome! and this is just the beginning, we are so looking forward to the Bahamas in the fall. I agree with others on this forum, every place you sail with have different adventures and different memories, so all will be great...am I right?

I would say the Bahamas. The waters, the people, the cruisers. And they're so close!

Re: Where is the best place you have sailed?

Mats Mats Bay, WA.

Quiet, secluded, truly a hurricane hole where there are no hurricanes.

The entrance is so intimidating that most people avoid the bay: rocks lying just off the entrance, first 1/4nm leg in is a 200' wide channel thru bedrod, then an 80deg turn and another 1/4nm leg that widens to 400' becoming rocks and sand.

However the entrance is well enough marked that I have been willing to enter at night. The end result is that most other people that have tried this hole love it too and it is usually full of locals on long term moorings.
