Tampa Bay - November

We're visiting family in the Port Ritchie area in November and are thinking about combining this with a 3-4 day cruise.

What are the conditions like in the Tampa Bay area that time of year?

Winds/weather?

Bugs?

Thanks.

Re: Tampa Bay - November

If you don't like the weather in Florida just wait 15 minutes and it will change. Hurricane season ends November 30 and it is not unheard of for a late season hurricane. On the other hand it is also possible for a early cold front to hit and drop the temps into the 30s. Not to mention the Tampa Bay area is the lighting capitol of the US and almost for sure there will be a thunderstorm with lighting.

Most likely it will be fairly nice weather and light winds. The bugs are worse a couple of days after it rains and as a rule November is the dry season with few bugs.

I have lived in Florida since 1954 and did my undergrad work at USF in Tampa and would never try and predict the weather.

John--

FWIW we find sailing in November and December one of the most enjoyable periods of the year. It may get quite cool in the evenings and over night but the sun warms things up pretty nicely in the morning. Once in awhile one can get a "cold" stretch for a few daze, if one considers 60's "cold" but that's unusual. The issue of "bugs" in Florida is greatly exaggerated unless one is near/in a mangrove swamp, the woods, or, wherever, but a some "Off" applied normally deals with the issue and we have never found it a problem, even in the summer months. Regarding weather, just keep an eye on Passage Weather. The up to 5 day forecasts for Florida seem to be quite accurate.

Good Luck/Have Fun!
