Moreton Bay, Queensland

After some ideas of anchorages for 2mtr draft yacht in Moreton Bay would also like to know what conditions the anchorage suits including day/night. Looking for something different to Horse Shoe Bay and Tangalooma.
Thanking you in advance.

We draw 2.2m (7'2"). Canaipa offers pretty good all 'round protection, south of the overhead wire crossing, if your mast is short enough--it's the same height as the one going down via Jacob's Well to Southport.

You can really get Westerly protection along Bribie Is., or most any western shore, but it isn't "out in nature", like Peel Is.

You can get SE protection way out at Yellow Patch at the North end of Moreton Is. We've also anchored at Bulwer Wrecks, and Big and Little Sandhills for SE, and then along North Stradbroke, outside the channel. There's a point you can anchor under in Shark Bay. You can get in the gutter at the North of Peel Is, too, but be careful, the water is pretty thin. You can get in Myora, too, part way.

All weather protection can be had by Mud Island, but you have to move to stay in the lee. It is only minimal protection, but quite adequate if you're coming in from days at sea, and need to sleep. Or if you want to wait for a thunderstorm to go by.

Most of Moreton Bay is pretty shallow, and you can anchor in an emergency out in the middle of nowhere if you need to.

I haven't seen a recent copy of it, but I believe "Beacon To Beacon"lists anchorages. Imho, it does not have adequately detailed depth indications, for boats of our draft but just to pick out coordinates for recognized anchorages, it should do you. Might even be able to get an old copy, used. Also, you can explore...

Who scorns the calm has forgotten the storm.
