Eating with your hands in India would be considered the height of poor manners. Right hand only, first two fingers and thumb, no food past the second knuckle. Never eat or great someone with your left hand, it's for wiping your ass with and you will offend someone.

Beachwear is generally appropriate when at the beach.
Workwear is generally appropriate when working.
Eating fingerfoods with the hands is generally appropriate.

Good advice fer others but here in Murica, we go our own way. With our own hands. And, here comes a shocker: with the exception of the beisbol leagues, most of us are right-handed (87%), ergo most of us wipe our butts with the right hand. Even lefties like my ex, but don't ask how I know. Point being, you just don't know about butt-wiping. Then there's the paper or lack thereof in use issue.

Avert yer eyes if yer squimish: I've been unable to avoid using public restrooms on occasion, and I've noticed that the folks who don't flush also don't appear to use tp. Wot? Yep. I guess it's slightly possible they are wiping and carrying the soiled paper to the big trash can but I doubt it. Guess the idea is if ya don't wipe, there's no need to wash yer hands and yer saved a tree. Two problems solved. That's the Murican way.

Just had a thought: if you're Murican but live in the southern hemisphere where the flush water spins the wrong way, do you switch up hands too? Are we mostly lefties below the belt equator?

My own left hand's dexterity is a sad comment on my supposed bipedalism. Not that I use my feet, but you may know what I mean. If so, PM me. Obviously I have no clue.

The reason the Asians use their left hands for their butts is coz the right hand is directing the flow of water from the jug they're holding..
And Latina's enjoy a cold beer... visit Sardinia or Sicily... or Portugal come to that...

I do admit I have stretched my credentials, having been exposed primarily to a small collection of women from Miami, Barcelona, Panama, Nicaragua, and their collective biases and prejudices.

I'm looking forward to expanding my experiential base!

But I will say that my personal observations attending bars popular with those gals, I have never noticed (a) a woman drinking beer other than Gringas, nor (b) a bartender serving beer in a can. Even on the beaches, the locals seem to prefer putting canned beer into a glass or plastic cup to drink it.

In Barcelona in particular, the Cervesa is served primarily to tourists, with the possible exception of a variation called "Clara" that is popular in the summer!

You don't have to be gay to enjoy wine on the Mediterranean coasts!

Also, I'd like to say that this thread has really helped me to understand why many Latins don't consider Mexican's to be "latin". It seems really obvious to me (now) that their traditions and culture are more closely linked to aboriginal culture (mayan, aztec, etc) than to the latin cultures of France, Italy, and Spain.

Your Sandanista reference reminds of a great experience I had in Leon, Nicaragua recently. Unfortunately not w a hot latina but w an older guy who fought in the conflict. We discussed the politics of the era and parted company friends.

Fortunately, he, like most latin Americans can differentiate between the actions of our government and the character of us gringos. If this were not the case more of us gringos would get lynched here...and as discussed we're pretty easy to spot!
