Ft Lauderdale Accommodations

Do any of you Ft Lauderdale people know of any places to stay here?

(on land?)

I'm here for 2 weeks. The hotels are all booked (got one for 2 nights right now for $140/night - not good!). The crew house offices aren't open. The hostel/crew house offices are closed. I'm stuck with $78 per day in rental car costs on top of the $140/night hotel right now because I can't find a place to stay for the 2 weeks.

Anyone know of anywhere within walking distance to a grocery store that isn't going to cost me an arm and a leg? I'm about ready to buy a little pool raft and cinder block to drop anchor Lake Sylvan!

Extended Stay America

We stayed at the Extended Stay on 17th St several times while purchasing and working on our boat last year. Convenient to supermarkets, restaurants, several marine stores, and, of course, the waterway. Don't know the current rates, but I recall that they were certainly reasonable given the location.

Bad timing:
The boat show">Miami boat show is on, the Dania flea market is upcoming, and it is "high season" with high rates for all the tourists as well. Anything near the water is going to be sky high, anything further inland is going to mean the lovely local gridlock and commutes.

I can't believe $78/day for a rental car, did you check with Alamo and Enterprise??

Crew houses? You mean, there are special hostels for boat crews down here? (Actually in FLL with family for a short while myself, but I'm on the couch, can't offer it to you.)

For high season, $140/night is actually not out of line. There was a piece in the Miami Herald about homeless and housing last week, something about one of the $79/night hotels being the cheapest thing in town, and of course they're all booked up all year.

Don't suppose you could stay ON the cat while you're closing on it? Or buy a roomy tent and camp out in the glades, in a real camping site?
