Friendliest Cruising Destinations

Was wondering where (outside of your home port) you found the friendliest cruising destination?

Was it friendly to you specifically. Was it the things that were in port eg, kid friendly, fixed your sinking boat etc or was it just a general all round brilliant place eg great people, very welcoming, excellent everything.

If it's a secret (and we all have a secret place) tell us generally where and why.

Photos would be great as I am still living vicariously through others

North Carolina. Anywhere in the state (well, at least anywhere you can reach by water). You wouldn't believe how friendly the people there are. Took us by surprise every time we traveled through the state. Our first example: Reach Cruise

I guess in my neck of the woods I would rate them as follows - Considering, ease of bureaucracy, friendliness of the people, cost and finally ability to get boat work done.

1 & 2 - Thailand / Malaysia - I'd call them tied for first place
3 - Singapore - although pricey
4 - Indonesia - I hate bureaucracy

Wow - great photos

Here you can't beat the Whitsundays especially whitehaven and percy island

No photos, as I said, living vicariously through others at the moment

Bequia - because every stranger I met there addressed me 'my friend'. Every single one. Otherwise the place was lousy.

Generally (and we should avoid generalizations) any place is friendly when your credit card is full. When it is not, look for places where it is useless.

Australia and NZ - very friendly.
French DOMs and TOMs - very friendly.
Spain - very friendly.
Azores - very friendly.

Azores were very special because earlier we had rather indifferent (read - pretty bad) memories of continental Portugal, bad memories of Cabo Verde and any other ex-Portuguese territory we visited. However - in the Azores the people were super nice, listened with smile and patience to our 'Portuguese' utterances and responded gently in English. We felt safe everywhere, we were given fish caught by locals, we chatted with officials checking us in and we were invited to come again when checking out. We will.

Cebu, Philippines is my number one. So nice, I'm essentially putting down some roots.

La Paz, Mexico was really nice fifteen years ago, but I have no idea nowadays.

Really though, this whole southeast Asian area is pretty much perfect for foreigners. I've heard horror stories about Indonesia, so I'll be avoiding, but everyone who's been to Thailand, Malaysia or Philippines has nothing but good to say of the people and their hospitality.
