Anchoring Along the Ohio, Tennessee-Tombigbee, etc.

Are there any restrictions when it comes to anchoring along the Ohio, Tenn-Tomm, and black warrior? Obviously we will need to stay out of the channel and away from places where barges moor but I am more thinking of trouble with authorities etc. There is a guy right on the Allegheny in Pittsburgh proper who seems to be living aboard on a little float that he has tied to a support on a bridge. It is hard to imagine no one has kicked him out.

We are planning a trip down river this summer and would like to anchor out as much as possible.

There are parts of the old river on the Tombigbee that are plenty deep and out of the way. I'm not an experienced transit boater, but I grew up on the Tombigbee and watched the waterway get built. Little or no current unless there have been heavy rains.

I am planning on getting out of Ohio where my latest acquisition is and have never done the Ohio.TTB or the Upper Miss or Lower Miss. I f you find out info please fwd to me if possible. My only other options are to the NY canal system and down the Hudson or go even further north out the St. L but if I go that way I just might as well head to Europe. My only other options are splashing in on the Ohio or trailer to nearest seaport...major bucks with a full keel. I would like to go South as this winter has chilled me so much these old bones can't handle any more. Good Luck and if you do have any info on the river route please write... MIO

There are a few threads on here regarding heading South on the Ohio and Mississippi rivers. If you do a search you will learn a bunch. Maybe we will see you out there this summer. We are heading South in August.
