Re: sxm/anguilla rescue and evacuation information

THINGS *NOT* TO SEND FOR RELIEF EFFORTS! PLEASE SHARE! (edited) My dear friend, Natalie, survived Irma by hiding out in a bathroom for 15 hours...she has been amazing and inspiring and is now rallying for help in the BVI and has an urgent message regarding relief supplies:
this applies to st martin as well, shared from windtraveler thanks

THINGS NOT TO SEND TO THE BVI!!! PLEASE SHARE!

I have heard people here are collecting and arranging massive shipments. Do not take clothes or shoes… or water in tiny plastic bottles!!

They need:
- Good food (not junk food)
- Water in large containers
- solar generators
- Building materials
- Big containers of water or water purifying equipment
- Communications stuff: sat phones, radios
- Solar phone chargers
- Fuel
- Duck tape and tarps!
- Any new tech to get up and running quickly

Any help restoring communications would be amazing
Any car parts are probably also useful. Everyone's cars have been damaged if not trashed. Lots of smashed windows and flat tires

We don't need more rubbish, there are clothes everywhere, we need to stop these shipments of crap.

***Please get this message out wide***

It will be a travesty if the BVI ends up burdened with rubbish which it already struggles to deal with. I already saw so much of this arriving at the airport… including drinks in cans and small cartons.

It's so sad… there will be plastic everywhere. There is already such a mess.

There are abandoned homes with clothes etc

Practical stuff is so much more important. Please please I can't stress too strongly.

We don't want the world's rubbish

No teddy bears
No toys at all

Please don't waste the space on the shipments

***We need to get this message to the press!!***

Re: sxm/anguilla rescue and evacuation information

funny thing about near death experinces is it effects all people in different ways some people get quiet and bottle it up,others feel anger

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder caused by very stressful, frightening or distressing events.
Someone with PTSD often relives the traumatic event through nightmares and flashbacks, and may experience feelings of isolation, irritability and guilt.
They may also have problems sleeping, such as insomnia, and find concentrating difficult.
These symptoms are often severe and persistent enough to have a significant impact on the person’s day-to-day life.

this is something that will effect many people who experinced IRMA for weeks, months, years after.

fleash wounds heal quickly, bones about 6-8 weeks, but injuries to the minds psyche can take years to heal,or maybe never.

this is something that the islands medical service must take very seriously and provide some sort of counciling for the population in the aftermath of IRMA.

group discussion will go along way in releasing some of the demons, and the sooner the better, especially children.

i'm just a layman, but have experinced it first hand,as a long distance sailor of many years dealing with life threatening situations over the course of many days at sea.

so be kind with your brothers and sisters, they may subconsiously be fighting a battle with nature through no fault of their own.

Going through a natural disaster like Hurricane Irma and experiencing the resulting devastation and loss can bring about anxiety, depression, anger, helplessness and/or guilt. Loved ones who witness their families and friends go through these traumatic experiences can also experience similar feelings. If anyone needs support during these difficult times, call 1-800-985-5990 or text TalkWithUs to 66746 to connect with a trained crisis counselor.

DUTCH MILITARY UPDATE @KoninklijkeMarine
https://www.facebook.com/Koninklijke...fs&pnref=story

UPDATE from the Public Prosecutor's Office:

The past couple of days police units and military on Sint Maarten have put an end to large-scale robberies and looting. An unknown number of persons were detained. Due to lack of detention capacity, persons who did not commit very serious facts, have been sent home. All collected material will be reviewed at a later date.

Meanwhile, a lot of data from the internet about looting has been recorded by a combined police team. The available photos of these suspects will be share via the internet and the public will be actively asked for assistance in identifying the suspects. At the moment there is still no internet and telephone on Sint Maarten. Once the internet is re-established, the website will be on the air. Citizens can offer their help and upload information about robbers and looters, as wel as passing on information about shown people.

Plunderers who voluntarily report themselves, and did not commit serious robbery, are being used by the Public Prosecutor's Office to carry out rehabilitation work on the island. Persons arrested will be brought to Court. The demand will be unconditional imprisonment.

As of today, persons arrested are only sent home after the agreement has reached with de Public Prosecutor's Office in Philipsburg. As soon as possible, quick-setting sessions (snelrecht) are held to bring robbers and looters to justice.
