Cruiser killed in San Blas, Panama

" A tourist who was on his yacht was killed early on Thursday May 2 in the region of Guna Yala, sources said.

According to the first reports, the event occurred on the island Surdub (island Mono), near Dad Naggwe Dubbir.

At the moment it is unknown how the tourist died and if the murderers are natives of the area, since they were hooded, but they took a 15-horsepower engine.

The informant added that fortunately, the woman and the children were unharmed from this robbery. "

Re: Cruiser killed in San Blas, Panama

Tragic for the family. Unfortunate for Guna Yala since crime is so uncommon there.

Re: Cruiser killed in San Blas, Panama

“... Local news outlet El Siglo identified the man as Alan Culverwell, 60, who was with his wife Derryn and two children, Briar and Flynn, near Morodub island, a popular tourist area.
A group of "hooded individuals" reportedly boarded his 15 horsepower yacht at approximately 2am on May 2 (local time). They attacked Alan with knives, mortally wounding him and injuring both Derryn and Briar, before making off with the yacht ...”

We were just through there 2 months ago and felt safe everywhere.

We have removed a sub thread content from within this one, and also some responses to it. It seemed better to keep this thread within the framework of reporting the issue and as such we apologise to CF members who responses were removed. Such a distressing event.

Re: Cruiser killed in San Blas, Panama

Guna Yala, aka San Blas, has been a pretty peacful and safe place for cruisers, with a few exceptions. It is somewhat autonomous from the rest of Panama. This remoteness and location close to Colombia means that transhipment for drugs heading north occurs. Whenever you have drug traffic you have weapons and crime.

This is terrible! Are the Kuna´s behind it or people form the mainland? Its pretty far out! I am having a hard time believing it is the Kunas!

I feel for the family!
