In 2003 I purchased Jipcho, a 1975 Young 42, a cold molded kauri
wood monohull sloop built in
Auckland, NZ.
I sailed her to
Fiji and west from there across two oceans. I am now spending the cyclone season in Guatemala's Rio Dulce, preparing for the final leg of
circumnavigation,
Panama to NZ.
By the time I arrive in NZ, I will have been 15 years sailing and
living aboard, and ready to take a rest ashore somewhere, so I'll be ready to sell my vessel. I wonder if NZ is a good place to sell her. Maybe
Australia or another Asian market would be better? I assumed that being a Kiwi design, she might be easier to get a fair
price, but then again the market may be saturated, and I've also met many Kiwis who sail production
fiberglass boats back to NZ, with the intention of making a profit, so I assume Kiwis may prefer those types of vessels. Additionally, I have no idea about the
legal and tax restrictions on a foreigner selling a foreign flagged vessel in NZ.
Anyone have any ideas?
Many thanks in advance for good advice! :-)
