Good day, all. I've been boatless since selling my Mason 44 in early 2018, and looking to get back on the water with another heavy-displacement cruiser. I'd love to find a Hans Christian 33 built by the Hansa Yard in Tiawan (1980-1987 model). I'm located in Charleston, SC, but would buy the right boat anywhere in the lower 48 if I could find it. Nice boats, hope you find the right one.
If you are trying to "move down" the problem is with the 'sprit, pushpit etc your moorage is probably gonna be a 40 ft slip anyway...

Hey, yes I understand that the LOA of the HC33 is actually 41'. Not really seeking a break in slip fees, but trying to get back into a boat that I can singlehand. The Mason 44 was a fantastic cruiser, but it was very difficult for me to manage by myself, and I am often without crew. HC33 has a sail area of 600sqft, whereas the Mason 44 has 921sqft. As far as build quality and being bluewater-capable, the HC33 is still every bit as robust as the Mason. I'm also a sucker for boats built in Taiwan in the 1980's. Masons, Hans Christians, Babas, you name it. I love those boats.

Yeah, me too. The best yards were amazing. Especially Ta Shing. I'd probably look for a Passport 37 or 40. Impeccably built by Ta Shing. The HC38 I had was a slug!

Passport 40 is on the list of boats I'm considering, but I don't like the hideaway toilet in the aft cabin, and I don't like the fact that there isn't a separate shower stall. Really, the HC33 was my dream boat when I was young and unable to afford one. You always have a soft spot for your first love, and as such I find myself back where I started 25 years ago.
Also, agreed on Ta Shing being the best. My Mason 44 really opened my eyes to how good they were at building boats there, and I had a buddy with a Baba 40 that was every bit as nice. I can't overstate how well-built those boats are.

There are a few different Passport layouts. I actually had a Passport 47 with that aft hideaway head too and it was useless really, although had I set it up for offshore use only I guess it would have been ok for that .
The lower layout below has a separate shower stall. I hated the Pullman berth on my P47 and my HC38. Stuffy and cumbersome to use.

37's are a bit hard to find but have a version with a separate stall also. I really like this 37 angular layout.:

I have a friend with one that I think fits your specs he is in So Cal and is interested in selling but is waiting on work on his powerboat to be complete what is your time frame?

Baba 30 is pretty nice. Not sure the 35's or 33's are enough of a downgrade for you (27klbs down to 20klbs), depending on what it was about the Mason 44 that you found difficult to handle.
