I was reading about the somewhat porous nature of this particular boat....how do you check for that sort of thing. It was in these forums but now I can't find it.

Not sure what you mean by porous. Do you mean the boat is prone to osmotic blistering? If you want to check for those, you need to have the boat hauled as part of the pre-buy inspection. Your surveyor will know what to look for.

Interesting that you imply this is a bargain. It is an old lightweight (for its time) fiberglass boat with basic coastal equipment in nice clean condition and at a fair price. Lots of similar options around. As a weekend sailor it is probably ready to go.

I own and live aboard identical boat. I haven't had issues with below waterline, but then again, I applied barrier coat back in 2003. But decks along genoa track are especially susceptible to to water ingress and mine was very bad.

in general this boat was more of a racer then a cruiser deck hardware which it has a lot of, is not necessarily properly bedded with balsa as the core.
