Alerion Express 38 Yawl, 1998

Now you can own the prettiest boat in the harbor. My well-cared for Alerion Express 38 Yawl is for sale in Santa Cruz, CA. Like all Alerion Express designs, she is traditional and pretty above the waterline, and very modern and fast below the waterline. She displaces about 12,400#, and has a 30' waterline. Designed by the late Carl Schumacher, in collaboration with Garry Hoyt. She has a 95% jib from North which is on a Hoyt Jib Boom, making tacking and gybing easy and safe. Her large North main is fully battened, and is supported by a Hall double spreader mast with a Battcar luff system. The mizzen is free-standing, and is supported by a Hall tapered carbon-fiber mast, so there's very little "mizzen clutter" in the cockpit.

Virtually all hardware is from Harken and Spinlock, with Lewmar ST winches include one electric winch which handles about 90% of the heavy loads except for the mainsheet. Extremely easy to sail singlehanded or shorthanded.
  • Yanmar 27HP diesel in excellent condition
  • Gori three-blade feathering prop
  • H&C pressure water, including a shower
  • Custom Blue Seas electrical panel
  • Heart Freedom inverter/charger
  • B&G and Simrad electronics, including GPS, three color instruments, VHF, Autopilot
  • Electric Jabsco head with freshwater rinse
  • Berths for five
  • Force 10 range with broiler and oven
  • NMEA2000 network

If you want more information about the interior and electrical system, you might check out the following video.

Surprise is an outstanding daysailer, since it doesn't take an army to get her ready to go to sea, plus she's a competent weekender. She will do almost 7 knots under power, and is fast with all three sails flying or just jib and jigger in higher winds. Two slab reefs on the main. Wood interior has satin varnish, and is warm and low maintenance. 8 Bomar SS ports give it a classy appearance.
