Here's a link to the new issue of the Florida Mariner. There are some cats for sale here that you might be interested in.

We'll be shopping starting in May. Maybe there is previously used family boat out there that will fit our needs?

Thank you for any leads!
Horizon Yachts have plenty for sale. Ann Mary out of Grenada is an Athena 38. We chartered her 2 years ago and had great fun. 4 cabins, 2 heads....df

An older Outremmer in Guadeloupe for 100k. Can be seen on yachtworld. Seems to be in pretty good shape.

Try to stay away from cats that use Volvo. I also don't like the sail drive setup. Prefer an actual shaft, strut, and folding prop, with dripless gland.
If you can find an older cat that has recently changed engines and new sails you will have won on 2 out of three o the biggest costs. The third item that is very costly is the rigging.

I am more into performance than I am into luxury. So I like Outremmer. Remember that the more luxurious the heavier the cat. The worse the sailing performance. But you have to balance performance with what is acceptable to the lady. Have you had the chance to sail on any of these boats?
With your budget... It is doable.

Thanks! I did try their website, unfortunately only 1 Cat listed in the 200-250 price range. I also looked at Moorings, that limits me to Leopards but there is a decent selection.

Hey there,

Just finished up a three year trip in the Caribbean with our family and are ready to move back ashore. We are selling our Leopard 42 and she is ready to go, currently in Stuart, Fla. She should hit Yachtworld tomorrow but you can call us at 772-214-5262 or morrinsafloat@hotmail.com.

Re: 40 foot Catamaran for Family

Items that you will need to consider with your budget.
1. The newer the boat the more the cost.
2. Boats coming right out of charter will need up-grades on electronics ($$$) and other items to make it a good live aboard cruiser. (watermaker, solar, sail inventory, ect, ect) ($$$$)
3. Older boats not loving cared for will most likely need attention in the near future.
So my recommendation is to find a boat that has been out of charter for a few years and has already been equipped for "blue water" cruising.... Just my 2cents from having done the same thing back in Oct 14 that your doing now. As with anything, it is going to be some compromises' to get you there.

We have a Volvo engine and don't have anymore problems than those with other engine brands.

You also need to look at the BAC price of a boat. That is the bluebook equivalent. Lots of people over price their boats. A good broker can help you get the price down. At least ours did.

Re: 40 foot Catamaran for Family

Hello,

We are just returning from 5 months in the Bahamas. We did a one year family trip on a Lagoon 410 S2. Fantastic boat and she is ready to keep going.

The boat will be in Florida in 3 or 4 days. Give me a call or email me if you are interested.

Hi, our 40' Island Spirit is for sale. She is an owner version (3 cabins) set up for live aboard cruising. We have been cruising since 2011. She is beautiful and we are currently in Bahamas.
