36ft Ferro Cement Gaff Cutter (Colin Archer style)

We are about to cross from the Cape Verdes to the Caribbean, where we'll be selling our gorgeous beloved 37 foot (on deck, 51ft LOA) gaff cutter. She's a home build from the 80s and we renovated her ourselves so there's no manual for this one! My partner and I have been cruising on her in the UK, Med and Atlantic for over a year and a half and she's an extremely safe and comfortable, enjoyable bluewater cruiser. We lived on her in the UK for three years before that - she also makes a great liveaboard. Selling due to work opportunities abroad.

Price: 35,000 usd
Built: 1982, Millbrook, UK
Materials: ferro cement hull and deck, solid larch cabin top, solid douglas fir spars
Length: 37 foot (on deck, 51ft LOA)
Disp: 17 tonnes
Beam: 12ft
Draft: 6ft
Interior: permanent double cabin forwards + pilot berth in aft cabin + settee single and double berths in main salon, c-head composting loo, 450L fresh water tankage, 120L deisel, log burner, Taylors paraffin cooker with oven, LED lighting throughout (including masthead tricolour)
Exterior: two sailing tenders stored neatly on deck, 200w solar panels, Aires windvane, 25kg Rockner Vulcan on 80m chain, 30kg Delta on 60m chain, 35kg fisherman anchor, manual Simpson-Laurence windlass, 4 man liferaft, fully retractable bowsprit
Engine: Perkins 4107 - run 250 hours since rebuild
Location: I'll update this. Possibly either Trinidad or Antigua.
Tech: depth sounder, VHF, AIS receiver, EPIRB, Windows based chart plotter

All systems on the boat are simple and sturdy to suit low maintenance long term cruising. I'd appreciate feedback as well as questions and offers as we're not familiar with the market on that side of the pond.

Re: 36ft Ferro Cement Gaff Cutter (Colin Archer style)

Hi Guys
Why not sail her home to the UK? It looks like you have more personal stuff than you could take as luggage on a plane?
I will be watching with interest on your blog as to how long it takes to sell her?
Good Luck and what a shame you cannot keep her.

Re: 36ft Ferro Cement Gaff Cutter (Colin Archer style)

Thanks for the lovely comments, all. We won't be going back to the uk as the work that's come up is in Japan, and it starts so soon that we won't have time to take Gwen further.

Also, just as a personal choice, we don't really want to take her back to the uk anyway. If she doesn't sell and we could afford it I think we'd come back when the work finishes and sail her on into the Pacific.

Re: 36ft Ferro Cement Gaff Cutter (Colin Archer style)

Just so you have some prior knowledge, ferro boats, even the good ones are
a hard sell on this side of the Atlantic. Pacific north west maybe.
Also gaffers a definite additional difficulty.

Similar FRP boats of that age go for $15 to $25,000.oo.

However all boats in good repair do sell...at a price.

I do wish you the best.

As sweet as she looks, I wish you well. Ferro is a hard sell.

Thank you, and yes, we've heard that. We're open to offers, of course.
