2005 Island Packet 445 Center Cockpit

Lady Carolina is very well outfitted with all of the high end standard features that come with the reputable Island Packet name. When first boarding Lady Carolina via the aft sugar scoop you will start to find some of the additional features that are not standard with every 445. These include such things as dual wind turbines (300W each), very strong beautiful 2-1/2” stainless steel davits outfitted with a 4kW radar, and solar panels.

Travelling forward you will find recently refinished brightwork, stainless steel portholes, dorad vents and the highest quality of winches and stanchions. At the bow sprit are two anchors, an original Bruce 45lb secondary anchor with 100’ of 3/8” high test chain and 250’ nylon rode. Her primary anchor is an oversized Rocna 40kg(88lb) on 250’ of 7/16” high test chain. Access to the water tight, collision bulkhead chain locker is via a hatch just aft of the Cheetah 2500 electric windlass. The anchoring system designed by Island Packet is well thought out and a breeze to use.

The cockpit has access to all control lines for the jib, staysail and in-mast furling main. This means that most of all work to be done when raising/lowering/trimming sails can be done easily from the safety of the cockpit via a combination of electric and/or manual winches. The helm has a very large chart plotter/radar, remote VHF handset, joystick to control the bow thruster and of course, a compass.

First impression when moving below decks is the excellent roominess and very well lit cabin thanks to numerous windows and hatches. Ventilation in the tropics is paramount and is no problem with the hatches and opening portholes throughout. She certainly is a pleasure to live aboard when anchored in your next destination.

To the port side is a custom leather Captain’s chair with access to all of the required navigation equipment for extended cruising and then some. Within arms reach of the Captain’s chair you will have access to VHF, chart plotter/radar, depth sounder and wind indicators, battery monitor, inverter/charger control, anchor windlass, ICOM M802 HAM with automatic antenna tuner, wind turbine current monitor, all of the battery switches and breaker panel for the entire boat.

Inside the spotless engine room you will find the standard Yanmar 75HP turbo diesel engine with 2500 hours and a few non-standard extras including: 8kW MasPower genset (Yanmar driven), second spare battery charger, 100A Balmar alternator, 1um oil bypass filter for very clean oil, dual inline fuel filters down to 2um and very easy access to all engine systems that need to be serviced. All records of maintenance can be provided and you will find that oil changes were consistently done before manufacturer recommendations.

The galley is a cruisers delight with a separate freezer, fridge and even a third fridge to keep all your other carbonated beverages cold. Corian countertops throughout with dual sinks close to midships for more stability. A gimbled force 10 propane stove/oven is perfect to cook up a storm and passing food to the cockpit is easily accomplished via a porthole or traditionally up the stairs. Plenty of drawers cupboards and a spice cabinet make cooking in this galley the envy of other cruisers.

Travelling aft you will find a spacious stateroom with its own separate head/shower and a bed big enough to fit two adults and two children for those late night movies. Opening hatches and portholes provide all of the ventilation that you need. Whisper quiet fans throughout the boat can provide additional air circulation if you require.

In the aft lazzerete you will find even more storage space along with a 30gph reverse osmosis water maker to satisfy heavy water users.

Throughout the boat the upholstery is a fine soft breathable leather material that cleans very easily and is a joy to sit on and see. The forward head also supports a shower (along with a remote shower on the sugar scoop, a real bonus) and like the aft head, is a single flush vacuum system.

We sailed Lady Carolina with our two boys for 4 years and toured Mexico, French Polynesia, Cook Islands, Tonga and Fiji. She never let us down and we always were getting compliments on the look and construction of this fine vessel. We are sad to see her go but our oldest is going to University and our youngest will be quickly following suit. We know that there are other people that would make better use of this fine vessel and it is our hope that someone will find ½ as much joy from cruising as we did.

The pictures that I have right now are limited however my main goal was to get this listing on the market quickly as I remember how difficult it was to look for used quality cruising boats. I can easily provide additional information and pictures. Since you are looking at Island Packets you understand the quality and workmanship that goes into every vessel and I am certain that Lady Carolina will not disappoint.
