1978 Golden Gate 30

1978 Golden Gate 30 for sale. 22,000 obo
Palm City Florida (near Stuart)

One has circumnavigated and others have crossed oceans.
My wife and I have sailed ours several thousand miles throughout Florida, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean.
Chuck Burns, builder of these yachts, recently reported finding one in the Philippines.
If we could keep this little yacht forever we would, but the time has come for her to find new friends to have new adventures with.

We’ve looked at a lot of boats, all listed as ‘ready to go’... and maybe 1 in 40 is close, if you spend 10k and 2 months...

Our little yacht was built for offshore work, and has been maintained to that standard.
She can unequivocally be sailed away into the sunset after familiarization.

A stiff, heavy glass construction with integral stringers, our Golden Gate 30 boasts external SS chainplates backed by accessible SS interior plates, a keel stepped mast, nearly full keel with cutaway forefoot, internal lead ballast, & a keel mounted (bronze pintle/gudgeon) foam-filled rudder protecting the prop in an aperture.

The interior is beautiful.
A nearly all-joinery construction of Varnished Mahogany sole and trimwork frames Birds-Eye & Tiger-Stripe Maple interior surfaces, finished in & maintained easily with tung oil.
You won’t find a more finely crafted, more beautiful interior on a 30ft sailboat anywhere.

Her mid-ship (aka structural) bulkhead is 1.75 inches thick. (see photo)
Fiberglass tabbing to bulkheads is generous.

The cockpit layout is set up for single-handing with all lines led aft and the means to handle them within reach.

An easy boat to sail, it has been ideal for my wife to learn on while we cruised. It has faithfully & safely carried us through multi-day ocean crossings and held her own at anchor in the Bahamian Derecheo of 2016 without incident.

The hull is super stiff, points very well, and makes good speed.
We’ve hit high 6’s going to weather in idyllic conditions and surfed at 11+kts running off, but she averages around 5 going into it and a little better off the weather if you’re not involuntarily surfing Grand Turk Channel in a southern breeze.

Tons of easily accessed storage exceeds many 40ft sailboats, seriously...where do these people put food?

She is a solid boat with great sails, a clean, organized & modern electrical system, super reliable inboard diesel, and sensible layout that’s set up for single handing and very comfortable for a couple to cruise on together.

Having looked at so many boats recently, and so many of them greatly misrepresented, we’ve put a lot of time and detail into the advert to answer as many questions as we can up front.
Nothing is being left out. Good or bad.

If you are a true offshore sailor, seeking a 30ft yacht to take you...anywhere, you will recognize the value in the details below.

Re: 1978 Golden Gate 30

What a gem! Ive sailed the GG30, Bodega30, and Farallon30 all virtually the same boat. Amazing little cruisers. The same yard made the Norwest33 and a GG40 (Halvorsen 40). Great craftmanship and build. I especially liked their puzzlepiece joinery and nonskid texture.
