Introducing the Leopard 40 | Leopard Catamarans US

Looks good, but there are limited details online so far.

New Leopard 40

Hmmmmm. Don't mean to be one of those who resist change but this does not speak to me at all. What happened to the bridge deck clearance? Is this an RV or a sailboat? Apologies but it does resemble a beach house with a mast stuck in it.

And most importantly, how will this model design changeover impact the 2016 Leopard 39 market values? (In twelve months Maybe I CAN get my L39 after all!)

Re: New Leopard 40

What changes are there apart from the "front door" on the L40?

(I like the older L39 from what I've seen so far as well........)

Just back from Strictlysail Miami. Walked on one, turned me off immediately. Kept thinking the designers crammed too much into a small space. It's less like a sailboat and more like a performance barge.

So what's the best compromise between a condomaran and a gunboat?

Personally, I like the lagoon 400, but it would be great if it Was a bit more gunboatish...

Mulligan our 07 L40 will cruise all day at 7 to 9 knots in 15 knots apparent, the Gunboat substantially faster Ive been told.

Oh and Mulligan is very comfortable with an inviting interior the Gunboat is an acquired taste.

Re: New Leopard 40

Any recent feedback on the NEW Leopard 40 from anybody that has actually sailed one?

There was a very nice write up on the NEW Leopard 44 on THAT particular thread......seems it was described as a "sweet ride" and that the front door/cockpit was a non issue while passage making.

I'm planning on checking out both boats. I'm leaning towards the 40 vice the 44 on paper since there is just 2 of us.

TIA

Re: New Leopard 40

I did see the boat at the Oct 2015 Annapolis sailboat show. I thought it was a good looking boat. Maybe a bit heavy and not sure regarding forward door. It was nice to step down and get into the locker, though. I am fairly new to sailing catamarans. Question: Why does this Cat have a lower shroud and an upper shroud? It was my main complaint. For a good sized boat, it was strange to have to step around the shroud when using the Deck. I think it could be a hazard in weather.
