The money they make could then go into the kitty for the payment of all the successful litigation by those ,including me,who have been sprayed countless times by the airlines.
What are the rules with that spray thing ? I wasn't sprayed in Sydney last year but I can remember it happening way back.

I love the Aussies (being a bitza myself). They've been to every punch up the Yanks have started since WWII.

"Hey Aussies. We're going to Korea. Wanna come?"
"Too right, mate!"

"Hey Aussies. We're going to Vietnam. Wanna come?"
"Too right, mate!"

"Hey Aussies. We're going to the middle east 2 or 4 times. Wanna come"
"Too right, mate!"

They are either our best mates or more likely just can't resist a punch up...

Every time a yacht owner decides to give Oz a miss the economy loses out by a lot more than the entry costs... to the tune of many $K in many cases.

Dopey buggers....
The impact of yet another fee is like corrosion. Rarely is one fee listed as impacting tourism directly but the effects have a huge and long duration impact on tourism.

As an Aussie I am sad and disgusted at the rampant bueracracy and stupid short termism that exists in Australia.

AQIS is a government monopoly and too many government and industry monopolies are gouging end users. They aren't focussed on efficiency improvements which is the really sad part.

You go to Oz, you get sprayed, taxed and your food confiscated...

Don't go. Stay home. Live in a bubble house - safer

I'm not looking for a place like San Diego.

But I'm certainly not looking for a place 3x worse than San Diego. That would be pretty stupid, if one were capable of realizing it.

Re: Yet Another Fee Hike in Oz

Speaking as someone who has flown into Oz quite a bit over the last 45 years I haven't seen that spray used on arrivals since the early '70s.... about the only place I haven't flown in from is east asia, ie the China/Japan range.

Maybe some people here need to get out more.

Speaking of fees... Chile hits Oz passport holders at Santiago airport with a 'reprocicity' ( sorry can't spell it or say it) fee. Oz charges Chileans for a visa .... Chile just takes the money.... about $US100... they also do it to the Albanians and a few others
Thinking of complaining to the Oz guvment about it... ? Good luck with that....

Well... My experience and the Australian governments is different to yours:

August 17th 2014.

"They may stand between you and the airport, in fact, barging right onto the plane, disinfectant spray in hand, spraying you and your belongings with a fine mist of insecticide. But it is not you they object to. It is the mosquito in the overhead bin, the dirt on your tennis shoe, the salami in your sandwich, the grapevine in your baggage.
“It might not seem like the most welcoming arrival, but it is done for very good reason, and the spray is a World Health [Organization] approved mixture,” said Carson Creagh, spokesman for the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service.
“We’re trying to protect the very things that appeal to people from other countries about Australia: the wildlife, which just doesn’t have any resistance to exotic diseases, and the environment, because there are many plant diseases out there that could devastate Australia.”
Every aircraft arriving in Australia is sprayed with insecticide disinfectant and every passenger questioned about belongings. No animal, food, plant, or soil is allowed.
Creagh said regular flights from Europe and North America are sprayed before passengers board, the better to avoid complaints from indignant passengers who object to flight attendants or quarantine officers spraying them on arrival."

That sounds like cross cultural imperialism.

+1 Havn't been sprayed since Weavis was here last.

As someone else pointed out the Galapacas is also doing its best to encourage tourism.

Re: Yet Another Fee Hike in Oz

I have been sprayed in Australia but it was oh so long ago. For sure it was earlier than 1990.
