Re: Sailing to Bermuda

Halifax to Bermuda was rough, ran into 40 knot winds and 25' seas in Gulf of Maine for 36 hours but finally made Bermuda in 10 days. Now I am in Antigua getting ready to sail to Dominica. How you doing?

Ah, congratulations! You did that singlehanded? (Wow) And then how long to BVI? Or did you go straight to St. Martin or Antigua? What time of year for both passages? Presumably you are enjoying your time in the islands.

Re: Sailing to Bermuda

Living in Nova Scotia I've heard folks say that can be a rough run but it sure cuts down the time spent in the ICW , How direct was your course? where did you encounter the Gulf Stream and how severe was its affect? I'm wanting to do this trip one day and am quite interested in the details of your journey 😀

Re: Sailing to Bermuda

Hi Sailor. Boy53
I to am headed east out the St Lawrence the end of May early June . My plan is to hopefully end up down the US coast (weather permitting) some where . Leave the boat and return in November to continue south.I plan on cruising ,enjoy the people, enjoy the sites just the experience .Its not the destination for me but. The adventure.
Nothing worse than sailing to a schedule .Mother nature gets in the way!

May see you on the passage

Hi Peter
I left Lunenburg late October and sailed down the coast with very light winds. They picked up in the evening and by mid afternoon the next day was in the worst storm I ever sailed in.Hove to for 36 hours before things got manageable but broke the gooseneck on the boom so lost the use of the main.Took over 10 days to get to Bermuda,Gulf stream wasn't bad as I had westerlies crossing it.From Bermuda to St Maarten took just over 6 days then to Antigua took 22 hours great sail.Antigua to Guadeloupe took 8 hours motorsailing as only had 5 knot northerlies.

Re: Sailing to Bermuda

The Gulf Stream should be fairly benign off of Cape Cod. Sounds like an awesome trip!
