Rio Dulce

I am flying down to Rio Dulce, Guatemala tomorrow to survey and seatrial a boat... I've never been there before, and don't know anything about Guatemala...

The haulout is going to take place at Abel's Boatyard... I cant seem to find out exactly where that is, and if there is a hotel near by???

Could someone please give me a town name, gps coordinates, or something???

A cheap hotel recommendation would be a great as well...

Thanks in advance...

Re: Rio Dulce

You can get a panga to take you anywhere so stay near town somewhere. Try Tijax they have food and clean rooms and the guy's will pick you up and take you where you need to go.

Fronteras (sp?) and it's Tijax Marina, run by a gringo but if you have your own car you may want to choose another place like Bruno"s maybe. You can get to Tijax by car and a hike but it's an 'on the water place' best served by panga. Stiil they would take care of you regardless but I'mnot sure where you would leave your car, maybe at Bruno's

Pick a hotel in fronteras (Bruno's or rio vista) then drive to Abel's for the survey. It's about a 15 min trip from one to the other.

Look on google earth and find fronteras, then find Castillo San Felipe. Abel's is the yard just north of the castle.

Re: Rio Dulce

Street food is great with lots of local and gringo restaurants. Do your sea trial out in Lago Izabel, open water and strong winds. Also take a trip in a panga to all the other marinas and check out what they have for sale. There are lots of boats that can be had for a song.

Re: Rio Dulce

Abel's marina is in San Felipe, which is a short drive from Fronteras (Rio Dulce). For a room with safe parking try Bruno's or Vista Rio. https://www.facebook.com/HotelMarinaVistaRio
Also consider avoiding the hassle of a rental car. Litegua has nice buses to Rio Dulce. Ask the taxi to take you to the new Litegua station

Re: Rio Dulce

Hi there! Curious about your experience with both the Rio Dulce and the survey itself! I'm interested in a boat for sale through the yacht brokers there as well. Also considering live aboard lifestyle in the Rio Dulce in off season.
