Nelson or New Plymouth (NZ)

Hi all,

I am planning a cruise from Melbourne to the west coast of NZ and back. We only have enough time to hit the west coast, spend a week there and return at an average of 100 miles per day in Jan next year.

I am struggling with finding any decent information about the facilities, particularly yard and shipwright facilities and secondly marina facilities. Has anyone been to either or both places and can advise on the better port to choose.

Definitely Nelson, very good well priced marina, lovely little town , I'm a bit biased as its my old home town, if you have Peter and Lorraine's old S&S it already knows they way as it crossed from Tas to Nelson same year we did
