Block Island - to Mystic CT

I am planning to sail from Block Island to Mystic this August. Any things I should consider on that leg? Also Where would be a good spot for an overnight (mooring) between Mustic and Clinton?

Where are you going in Mystic. If your are going to downtown it is a bit of a motor up the river. If you were looking for a quick stop, you might try one of the Noank Marinas. They are closer to the mouth of the river.

Thanks. How far is it from the mouth of the river to downtown?

Especially in August....

If there is any wind it will most likely be out of the southwest, right on your nose...

Except when it is windy. Have seen plenty of days with 25 kts. And some with none.

You should consider the currents in Fisher's Island Sound. See Eldrige.

Between Clinton and Mystic I like the CT River. Several nice areas up to you had far up river you want to venture. Old Saybrook near the mouth, North Cove, Old Lyme, Essex, Hamburg Cove, Deep River all all options.

Essex is awesome. Beautiful town, and of course there is the Griswold Inn which has been around since forever and has the best tap room on the east coast. It's about five miles up the river.
