Weather class / resources

I am a bit of a noob to the forum. In addition to sailing, I would like to do some dry land training and learning in advance of my anticipated cruising adventure in a few years. Can anyone recommend: i) a solid, but comprehensible book on weather forecasting for sailors; and ii) a 2-3 day long course covering relevant weather forecasting and other weather related topics? Thanks in advance.

There is a corresponding book written by David Burch, but I strongly recommend signing up for the full class. The book is chock full of info, but could use some editorial work...most I dont think get thru it. Whereas the class uses not only the book, but extensive online resources with support from the instructors...orders of magnutude better than just the book.

Chris Parker’s book, available off his site and also via Amazon I think, is an excellent primer.

You might also check with your local (or not so local) CG Aux. and Power Squadron. They both have great classes for you.

Check out Seven Seas Cruising Association University. They have both free and paid training seminars. The ones about weather are done by Chris Parker. These can be found at:

While you're waiting to spend some cash on courses, download these free books from the Dashews. The info is good, the editing not so much.

Wow! I appreciate all of the feedback and resources. I can now confidently avoid even the slightest squall and perpetually sail perfect 18 kn trade winds, thanks to you all [emoji3]
