Storm Warnings West Coast Canada - 30 foot seas

Things look pretty serious, especially for one of our members up in the Hecate Straight. Astrid, let us know how things are if you can.

9 meter seas is 30 foot seas. Things could get a bit hairy out there.

Category 2 hurricane force winds off northwest Vancouver Island. Sartine Island reported wind gusts of up to 176 km/h!

We still have a storm warning in effect. It is not too bad right now between Moresby and Graham Islands, but it has been pretty rough out in Hecate Strait all day--wind peaked SSE at about 50kts with gusts up to 62, but has gradually declined to about 30kts. Pretty sheltered where I am moored; my instruments shows the wind S at 12 kts. We have rain currently and the temp is 9C. All in all, fairly secure where I am but definitely would not want to be out in the Strait right now.

Looks like the storm warning has been downgraded to gale warnings in parts of Hecate Strait, but some storm warnings still in effect. It seems we are in for more gale--storm conditions through Friday before things calm down a bit. The Prince Rupert--Skidegate ferry is still operating though, on a revised schedule.

Good to hear things are settling down and your in a sheltered area. It does not sound like it is fun out there.

Just that time of year around here. We pulled a 38' SV off the rocks on Monday. Minimal damage luckily. Was real wet and cold getting that done without foulies but we did it.
