Good luck, man! Hopefully, tomorrow's forecast will show her farther offshore. What is your current hurricane preparation plan....you know, just in case?

Re: Paging hurricane Irene:

Best case scenario, strip sails and bimini/dodger/solar panels/wind genny and spiderweb the crap out of her in the slip. Worst case scenario, strip everything and take her as far up the Cooper River as I can go, deploy my heaviest ground tackle off the bow rollers and get off of her.

Re: Paging hurricane Irene:

This morning the track show a red mark at 8am Saturday that was directly over the captains chair on my boat. EXACTLY directly over my boat. And it was casting a bulls eye shadow. Made me just a little nervous.

But by this afternoon it had drifted away to the East.

However, if it doesn't move a lot further East, I'll drive down Wednesday or Thursday and add a bunch of lines, take off the valuables, and hope she rides it out.

City Marina sent me an e-mail saying their boatyard will do a hurricane haul out for a little over $1,500. I don't really think it's $1,500 safer up there...

Yep, hi n dry and living aboard in Oriental NC. Local news just showed her coming in as a cat3, and two of the tracks went right over Oriental. Hope she doesn't tip or float away in a surge, would be too much excitement for me. lol

Re: Paging hurricane Irene:

if surge wont come that high, might wanna take 4 point to earth mooring on land for this. and not to gravel, to good hard dirt--bury the dang things. do no ttie to trees. they fly. but 4 point dug in hard anchoring may just work iffn ye get no surge there.
how is yer insurance? gooood luck and hold fast.

Re: Paging hurricane Irene:

Because of the rudder, I'm covered if I'm on the hard. If I float away, I wonder if they will claim I launched?LOLOLOL
Maybe mobile home tie downs??? Whatever, she has to make up her mind where she is going to landfall.
I might have a first person tale of riding out a cat3 on the hard!

Clean the cabin out and tie her up secure. Lean back and finish off one bottle of rum while opening another. But I'm on the West coast of Florida and the track looks like it will skirt the east coast.
If I were on the East coast I'd buy more Rum! Or get the Hell outta the way!

Re: Paging Hurricane Irene . . .

nothing to do now, she's stripped and moored in the creek, always ready this time of year.

400 miles from the boat, got no choice.

careful out there ya'll

Re: Paging Hurricane Irene . . .

In my opinion it is best to haul out if you can. There is a reason why many/most insurance carriers are paying a substantial part of the costs--it saves them money (and you damage). I was on the hard for Isabel and had NO damage while boats just a hundred feet away sank at the dock and anchored boats were blown ashore. Its worth checking with a marina that can haul and with your carrier (if you are insured).
