New threat to the Lesser Antilles and surrounding islands

System 15, will probably form into a TS/Cat1 in the next few days, and hit the Caribbean islands around Monday. Everything seems to point to a TS forming and even achieving Cat 1 status before it does landfall. The name for the TS/HC will be Maria, and it looks like she could then go over Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic and eventually skim the southern east coast of the US.

People in particular in already affected islands like BVI, St Maarten should extreme precautions and at least a Tropical Storm watch has been issued all the way to Martinique by the NHC.

This really sucks.

Let's hope it veers north like Jose did.

The idea of another storm is hitting people hard here in Anguilla. And it's only the middle of September, not even peak season. The whole island is without power and we have just started a major cleanup. Boarding up again will be tough.

There's no such thing as a rational discussion on climate change with the American Government. You have elected the enemy within. Let us know when you recover your senses.

Re: New threat to the Lesser Antilles and surrounding islands

I have my boat in st Croix and I'm under Maria's gun as we speak. Though I did not vote for Trump I don't think that the presidency of anybody would have made a difference to the hurricane bunch we've been getting hit with this season. So we should stop passing blame and worry about what damage we are doing to Mother Earth all of us. Earth is mad and the poor Carib is paying dearly for it along with Fla, Tx, Ga. NC, etc. I feel horrible about all the distraction of all the paradise islands I have been enjoying for the last five years. Sorry but I had to vent my anxieties that I feel with Maria's breath on my neck.

Re: New threat to the Lesser Antilles and surrounding islands

Hurricane season this year is the best argument I have seen to spend the season in Trinidad south of the hurricane paths.

I'm new to the community. Does it seems like cruisers have gotten complacent with the lack of major storms to hit the islands over the last few years?

Re: New threat to the Lesser Antilles and surrounding islands

Spent one came season in Grenada and the next one in Curaçao. But you are right I have become complacent so this season I'm in st Croix and after small effect from Irma now I am waiting for Maria we'll see next Wednesday if my Mary Jane is still afloat.

that or re-engineer boat yards ie, masts down and plant the monos in holes with car tires supporting them, don't know what you would do with flying cats though-----water ballast and tie downs on the hard?
