Katia to Be Named Hurricane Today

Didn't want to mention this one to you folks on the eastern seaboard of the USA but Katia is in the jumping off place to clock New York....

Some models say it will go north, some models straight at NY, some models just blond and skimpy dressed.

Between Katia and New York is Bermuda. Man!!--I don't feel like stripping the boat again.

I've been watching it. So far, I haven't seen any models that give it NA landfall (yet), but that could change!

Way too early for models to project landfall or any extended path. It sure does look a lot like patterns similar to hurricane Gloria and most recently Irene.

... actually, as a "Cape Verde" system, yes, it looks like Gloria, or Isabel.

Venezuelan Hurricane Model...

If I were single, bored and sitting on a seaworthy yacht just off the coast of Venezuela I'd be much more interested models that weren't of the hurricane kind.

Re: Katia to Be Named Hurricane Today

Got the first GFS models showing it crossing the coast just south of Cape Hatteras.
Though I do agree that it will recurve before then and head NE
SHIPS has it going much more south and west than GFS

From the NHC
Quote:
.KATIA WEAKENS TO TROPICAL STORM...EXPECTED TO RESTRENGTHEN
That one in the Gulf looks the most threatening to land at the present moment. Also the almost stationary low north of Bermuda may steer Katia west.

Re: Katia to Be Named Hurricane Today

Latest from NHC says that low north of us is starting to rotate and could be TS before long.
Its the remnants of the one that blasted us without notice on Sunday gone.

Re: Katia to Be Named Hurricane Today

Luckily, since my boat has already been prepared for Irene and because some work has come my way I won't have to worry about getting the sail back on for about a week. Keeping a weather eye on Katia though.
