Is there a name for this windpattern in the gulf?

I assume it's caused by the presence of mountains. It seems to appear on a regular basis based on my anecdotal observations.

I thought it looked like south winds blowing off southern Mexico north into the Gulf. Am not aware of that as a named, repeating phenomenon like a Sirocco or Santa Ana winds.

Correct, and there is a bit of a funnel there, the breeze from the Caribbean combined with the landmass shape the winds in this manner.

the name of the wind going thru the narrow pass of mexico is a tehuano, which gringos call incorrectly a tehuantepecker or t pecker. originates from a norther in gom and passes across the mexican isthmus at tehuantepec.

Some call them “Tehuantepecers” since they are a fairly frequent occurrence in the gulf of Tehuantepec. Some people have reported being “sandblasted” from the beach as they travel within a mile or two to avoid the waves that are often generated. They are something to avoid.

the real name if a tehuantepecer is TEHUANO. only gringos call em peckers. yes to be avoided but can be done with a foot on the beach, or a hundred or so miles out to sea.

The prevailing winds are always SE unless influenced by continental weather features such cold and warm fronts. I think what you are observing is mid summer monsoons.

This is a silly argument. The word is either Tehuano Wind or Tehuantepecer. The word comes from the Tehuantepecer region where it occurs.

Arguing that the word is tehuano and not tehunatepecer is like arguing that you didn't get a "Complimentary" hotel room at the Casino, but rather you were "Comp'd". ("Complimentary isn't a word, it's comp'd, that is what everyone in vegas calls it). which would be a completely silly argument.

There are many, many examples where abbreviations work their way into the vernacular and become widely accepted as the actual word. For example Good Bye is an abbreviation of "God Be With You".

I'm sure that the locals all say Tehuano, but that doesn't make the alternative invalid.
