It seems as though all the action is in the Pacific this year. NOAA has downgraded the forecast for number of hurricanes in the Atlantic. But all it takes is one so they say on the weather channel.

How many Atlantic hurricanes this year? What is the accuracy record of weather forecasters of hurricanes? Not too good, I think.

TSR further lowers its previous outlooks and predicts Atlantic hurricane
activity in 2015 will be about 65% below the long-term average.
Should this forecast verify it will mean that the ACE total
for 2013 - 2015 is easily the lowest 3 - year ACE total since 1992 - 1994,
and it would imply that the active phase for Atlantic hurricane activity which began in 1995 has likely ended.

That's kind of my feeling too. It just seems so strange that we got so hot so early in the season. That upper level wind shear has stayed to strong for so long and that that sierra dust has put a damper in things.

I would think that even if the water temp is setting records its being tempered by land setting heat records. Do you think that wind shear is being created by the very warm land? If so, what happens when you end up in a situation where you have a very warm water mass and the wind shear slows because the earth cools down - e.g. winter approaching.
