not connected with Mantus or Rocna in any way just a quick google search will tell you that your pricing is off.
True.. downside is you would have 2 Rocna or Mantus and not a Spade.

We recently purchased a boat that has a little-used older A80, yet when weighed - several times with different scales - is exactly 20 lbs, yet has never been worked on. I contacted the company and they have kindly offered to stand by their product and replace it with a new one; I'm currently waiting for them to get back to me as they were at the show in Miami. I'd say that's pretty great service, for which they deserve kudos! ~Lee

Looks like an A80 should weigh 15 lbs.

Must have been this tablet's auto-correct or just a typo; it's an A100.

Sounds like you are 6 lbs short of a load. Should be 26lbs.

Yep, that's what Alex from Spade told me, and then offered to exchange it for a new one. I'm curious to find out why there's a difference.

There appears to be a wedge of lead down in the crevice, but the long edges are fragmented, not smooth, so I don't know if this was an early serial # and poured differently, or some other scenario.

Well, it would have to be quality control. Especially if it's an import.

I don't want to get into the "which anchor is best" or "why does it cost so much" discussions, but from my understanding, the biggest issue with good anchors is not defects in parts or workmanship, but getting the anchor stuck in rocks or debris and having to cut it loose and abandon it. I've never seen a warranty that covers this.

Re: Spade Anchor

I think the number of anchors recovered with damage, usually bending, is comparable to the number of lost anchors or even greater. The risk is that the bending allows the anchor to release from the rocks or coral at a very inopportune time. Some anchors, especially the Danforth style, bend or break quite easily if caught and should never be used near rocks or coral. Other things being equal forged anchors are stronger - but one can argue that other things are rarely equal. The old genuine CQR anchors were forged and could take a lot of abuse; still I have seen a number of bent ones. At some point they all fail...

It's not the biggest issue with just "good" anchors, but all anchors. You can use trip lines or any number of devices (or dive down) to retrieve an anchor. For me the value of a quality anchor is both workmanship and warranty, and, as in the case of this Spade, an aluminum anchor much lighter than the same size traditional anchor.
