Rules for Sponsoring Vendors

Sponsoring Vendor Rules

Any member with a marine-related product, service or company - whether for profit or not for profit - may choose to become a Sponsoring Vendor. You can find out more by filling out our Vendor Registration Form. Sponsoring Vendors must adhere to all forum policies including the following which specifically pertain to SVs:

- Soliciting Members: Sponsoring Vendors may not solicit our membership or advertise except as specifically allowed in these policies or by prior arrangement with Social Knowledge, LLC.
- Discussion of Competitors: Sponsoring Vendors are prohibited from making direct, emotionally-charged posts to, or about, competitors or their products. SVs may post factually supported product comparisons, if doing so helps to resolve an issue.
- Product Discussion: Sponsoring Vendors are encouraged to share their expertise with members in any forum, and may discuss their product, service or business when answering a direct question from another member, but should bear in mind that excessive plugging becomes off-putting. Links to products they have an interest in are permitted when directly relevant to the discussion.
- Starting Threads about Products: Sponsoring Vendors may start threads about their business, product or service in the Supporting Vendors Forum, which has a dedicated RSS feed. Sponsoring Vendors may direct members to their own threads where directly relevant to the discussion. SVs searching for crew or offering delivery/crewing services may also start a new thread in Crew Positions.
- Quoting Prices: Sponsoring Vendors may post prices in threads in any Forum where directly relevant to the discussion, and may include links to the relevant products.
- Responding to Threads about Products: Sponsoring Vendors may respond to queries from members when their product is directly related to the query.
- Linking to Products: Sponsoring Vendors may post links to their product in any forum thread where relevant to the discussion.
- Special Offers: The Vendors Forum is for Sponsoring Vendors to start discussions and is specifically dedicated to product announcements, special discounts for members, general promotions and services. Only Sponsoring Vendors may post such announcements, specials, promotions and services, and only in the Vendors Forum.
- Giveaways: Cruisers Forum offers a monthly Giveaway in conjunction with Sponsoring Vendors. SVs may NOT give their product away for free except by prior arrangement with Social Knowledge, LLC. Mailshots to promote Giveaways may be available for Platinum Vendors only.
- Contact Information: Sponsoring Vendors may include their phone number, address or email address in any post when relevant to the discussion, although this is usually unnecessary since the information is probably in the signature.
- Avatars: Sponsoring Vendors may post their product or logo in their avatar.
- Usernames: Sponsoring Vendors may use their business name or product, in whole or part, as their username.
- Signature Standards for CMs: Sponsoring Vendor Signatures may contain 2 links, one of which may be to their product, service or business website, and a 468x60 (40kb) banner with embedded link. Phone numbers and/or e-mail addresses may be posted in vendor profiles, as well as in signatures.
- Banner Standards: Banners should be professionally produced. Vendors may only advertise and link to their own site and product.

Sponsoring Vendors must also adhere to all the general forum policies found here:

re: Rules for Sponsoring Vendors

OK, so we at CF truly appreciate the support our vendors give to the forum, helping us to remain free of charge to our members and all that. But it's way more than that. Our vendors often become known and trusted members of our community, whose opinions and advice are appreciated. We thank you for that.

In order to develop relations with our members, can I suggest that when you start threads, you ask a question, or plant some other sort of seed which will encourage members to post in your thread.

This would be a bad example of a first post:

Great new heads on sale here: (Link)
Our viewers might read the post, and might follow the link, but will not respond, since there is nothing to respond to, and therefore the thread will sink out of the spotlight!

A good example of a first post might be:

How often do you have to clean/service/replace your heads?

We feel our new heads (link) are a little better than the others, because they last twenty years, you can flush loo roll down them, and they NEVER need servicing!!
This at least gives members scope for discussion. You could even offer to send a free loo roll to every member who makes you laugh at their own heads story...
