Re: Post the Worst "For Sale" Picture You've Seen.

Been boat shopping myself in the south of France, and have a video showing some best and less good sailboats: French Oldies But Goodies

Came across an ad today. Below is the one and only picture that is not of the exterior of the boat. Surely you can get a good feeling for the condition of the interior from this picture, right?

How is it that Mathew Brady's US Civil War camera worked better than all these posts?

Yikes! Seen this many times in horror films. You never want to go down the cellar stairs at grandma's house!

LOL. I thought it was a row of seats on some tour boat.

Or church pews.

I believe that most of the pictures in this thread were taken using a potato.

That's one hella drop to the sole!

I count 5 steps not including the cockpit level nor the saloon sole...

(and it totally agree with the bus/pew impersonation)

I'm glad someone told me what it was otherwise I would have gone with a bus from the 1930's

I think the major deception is... How it's very white up front, and kinda dark in the back...

Re: Post the Worst "For Sale" Picture You've Seen.

There's no doubt that sellers often shoot themselves in the foot. As of last August I'd been searching for a Corsair 36 trimaran, of which only 15 were made before they extended it to 37'. I had seen a small ad on sailboatlistings.com, but the photo was small and from a distance, and the description weird - something like 'partner doesn't want to go fast.'

Finally I found one through a yacht broker that was in great condition, with lots of photographs and updates made by the owner. Lo and behold, I found out it was the same boat - the seller hadn't had a response in over a year. Put it with this broker, and had 2 people interested (1 right when we had settled on the offer) within a month. I must say, this broker was more pleasant than any salesperson I've ever dealt with - important when considering a boat in British Columbia and living in Md!

The point - anything can be misleading!

I think that's what makes them a "worst" picture. The fact that they tell you absolutely nothing useful as a potential buyer.

Sometimes the boat is a piece of crap, and the pictures clearly show that. Okay, at least I can see what it is and make a decision. Pictures like the one of the companionway ladder above give you nothing at all to go on. Might have a beautiful interior, might be a worthless mess. My guess would be that the interior looks horrible, and that's why they didn't include any pictures, but that's just a guess. I have no way of knowing.

It just amazes me that someone would put in a picture like that and be so thick as to think that it is going to help to sell the boat.

(Of course, the alternative explanation is that they don't really want to sell the boat, and that's why they post pictures like that. In the above case, though, the ad did include several nice pictures of the outside of the boat. The companionway ladder was the only remotely "interior" picture, however, which is pretty stupid.)

I wasn't going to mention that.

(Should that possibly be " all civilized morning coffee drinkers add whisky to it")
(note the absence of an "e" )
