What a beautiful boat. Love it! I second the question -- did it come to you from Europe?

Indirectly, yes. She was built in Holland in 1902, and served as a manure barge before being turned into a pleasure boat (probably in the 50s or 60s). Dan Rowan (of "Rowan & Martins Laugh-In" fame) eventually bought her, kept her in France for several years, and had her shipped to Baltimore shortly before he died. I almost bought her when I first saw her there in 1997, and 3 owners and 16 years later, I did.

Oh My what a dump that was.

If I had seen a photo of this I would have saved the airfares and hostel costs.

And you haven't jumped on one of those deals! I especially liked the cat.

At least with the catamaran the pictures give you a fair idea of the condition. Yes, the boat is a POS, but the pictures reflect that. With the others... Oh my! Yet more people trying to use pictures in an internet advertisement who appear to know absolutely NOTHING about using pictures in an internet advertisement!

Re: Post the Worst "For Sale" Picture You've Seen.

Last week we had an ExVP come to our office to give us the "Corporate Vision."

Power Point slides. Small room, maybe 20 people, really good LCD projector. Slides obviously done by our marketing group, really pretty, nice graphics, great color coordination.

Font was so small the back half of the room couldn't read the many mistakes in the graphs or the numerous undefined acronyms, let alone the text, which only dwelt on that we were to make more and more money for the corp., but not how.

It was a piss poor sales picture.

You could work with the cat. Forget about a mast. Just install an autopilot & electric with solar - or real cheap - 20 HP 4-stroke. Use it ONLY for the great circle where you can seek safety. I think 500 clams is a better price.

Re: Post the Worst "For Sale" Picture You've Seen.

I find that pictures actually hide a lot of faults. In searching for my boat, on arrival I would find incredible filth and garbage, touch a table and it collapses in a heap, dirty hull overpainted with house paint, and all asking top dollar. Though made it easy for me to sell my last boat looking immaculate- 4 days and got my price.

I hadn't thought of that adventurebound. We also have sold 2 boats quickly and easily (one for 20% more than ask). Maybe buyers are just so stunned by honesty and clean boats they can't help themselves!

Or I should become a broker! Oh, no, let me take that back, I just had a chill run up my spine.

Re: Post the Worst "For Sale" Picture You've Seen.

Not a worst picture, but when I read what he has done to a perfectly good engine I did wonder what else he has fiddled with. Some folk shouldn't be let loose with a toolbox.

Pegasus 800 Fin Keel 26ft Volvo Penta Engine | eBay

"I wanted to have the engine overhauled this winter, and next winter I was intending to lift her out and do the hull. A friend in the marina suggested that I pull the injector and take it in to be serviced and tested. Against my better judgement, I agreed to pull the injector myself, and then took it to my friend for a quick inspection, before sending away to be serviced. He promptly informed me that the part I was holding was not an injector, but the fuel pump. I decided there and then to take no further part in the overhaul of the engine and engaged a reputable company in Peterhead to carry out the work.

The engine is now starting like a dream and runs real smooth, but the engineer was unable to get total control of the governor. You will be able to talk to the engineer if needed, but basically, he believes that when I removed the fuel pump, without disconnecting the linkage to the governor, I lost the linkage inside the engine. We sourced a new linkage, but he believes that the part lost is stuck down behind the counter weights of the governor, and therefore the only way to correct the problem is to take the governor out. Sounds easy, but the only way to get the governor out is to first disconnect the engine from the saildrive to allow access. The boat would also need to be out of the water for this!
