Re: Jack Klang Videos - More Options to Own

Do you own the sole film rights to "Beyond the Western Horizon"?

The BBC gave Eric and Susan Hiscock a camera and 4000 feet to produce the film. The original was hosted on You Tube for free and then disappeared. You seem to have "re-mastered the original although I can't tell the difference, but now charge to view.

So do you have the sole rights to this film and were you responsible for the original being deleted from YT?

Why did you delete my comments on YT twice? is criticism of the Sailing Channel not allowed on YT?

Peter

Re: Jack Klang Videos - More Options to Own

The version of Beyond the West Horizon on Youtube was a pirated copy, probably from a ripped DVD sold at the Hiscock museum on the isle of Wight by the Hiscock's niece who owns the film as part of the Hiscock estate. It is not a free film. Is a British copyrighted film with an owner. TheSailingChannel has a distribution agreement with the film's owner and paid for the film restoration and professional scanning to HD at the British Motor museum, the goto restorer of classic films by the BBC.

We asked Youtube to take down the pirated copy to protect the interests of the owner and ourselves.

We see your comments on Youtube and have replied to them and others with the same complaint. Please recognize that just become someone pirates a copyrighted film, be it BTWH or Gone With The Wind, they are stealing from the rightful owners.

Since you were confused over the DVD issue on Youtube, please contact us through our website or email story@thesailingchannel.tv and we will send you a coupon in the amount of your Youtube purchase towards a DVD. We'll also provide you with free Vimeo access so you can download the HD file for offline viewing or stream the video as often as you like.

BTW, if you bought the title on Youtube you should be able to watch it as often as you like. However, Youtube does not allow you to download the file for offline viewing. If you rented the title, then you can only watch it for 72 hours.

Re: Jack Klang Videos - More Options to Own

Thank you for your reply.

Sadly I can't take up your offer of a coupon as I didn't pay to view Beyond The Western Horizon and it would be wrong to benefit under a false pretence.

I can't find a museum to Eric and Susan on the IOW which inccidently is just across the Solent from me. Does it still exist? would be worth a visit.

Your price of $12.99 to view or $19.99 to buy the DVD is too steep for a single film. Particularly if you wanted the Pardeys videos as well.

How about a 50% discount for Cruiser Forum members of the BTWH film. The Pardeys films are still valid and contain lots of sailing advice still relevant. However, BTWH is from a bygone time, so interest only and not something to watch before going and doing it. You certainly wouldn't wander up the high street in Aden today looking for groceries.

Regards Peter

Re: Hiscock Heritage Update

Update on Hiscock "museum" from the Hiscock family...

The Coastguard Cottage in Yarmouth was not an official museum. Owned by the Hiscock family, it held all the memorabilia of Eric & Susan’s voyages. This included the 25 journals written by Eric between 1947 and 1986 containing photos, press cuttings, letters, stamps, etc. Also included were artifacts such as Eric and Susan’s sextants, their sail repair kit, books of navigation calculations, charts, and several photos and paintings connected with their Wanderer vessels.

The Hiscock family opened the cottage for a week several years ago with everything displayed, but since then, it has opened by request only. The family has always welcomed any yachtsman interested, but the cottage remained primarily a family holiday home.

Family members have moved on to their varied lives and the cottage is not used as much, so they've decided to let it through Airbnb. Last week, the family loaned much of the Hiscock memorabilia to the Classic Boat Museum in East Cowes. It will take a bit of time for the museum to collate the collection and set up a display. Hopefully, an official museum display will enhance and expand Eric and Susan's accomplishments as pioneer cruising blue water sailors.

We will announce the public opening of the Hiscock collection here and on TheSailingChannel.TV. We plan to donate a HD digital copy of the restored film for the museum to screen as part of the Hiscock display.

Below is a 20% off coupon for Cruising Forum members interested in purchasing either the Vimeo HD digital download or the new interactive DVD of Beyond the West Horizon available on TSC.
