For Sale: 1969 Mariner 31 Ketch, Freshly Restored !

We are proud to offer Kahagon, a 1969 Far East Yachts Mariner 31 ketch for sale. Kahagon is currently undergoing a refit and partial restoration at our shop. This restoration consists of pulling the glass on the house and treating the underlying plywood with penetrating epoxy, new glass and paint. The mahogany hard dodger was also pulled, repaired and will be refinished. The boat will have new non-skid and paint inside and out. We also stripped the hull to Gelcoat below the waterline and addressed a half dozen small blisters. We are going back with an epoxy barrier coat and fresh bottom paint. All of the brightwork will be finished as well. The masts have been pulled and inspected and will be refinished. The standing rigging appears to be in good condition and the sails are serviceable with only the mizzen due for repalcement. The boat has a Perkins 4-108M with 105 hrs since a complete rebuild. The interior is the standard layout with the exception of the quarterberth being removed for storage and better engine access.

Act now and choose your bottom paint type (hard or ablative).

This fine bluewater yacht is being offered completed and in the water for $22,000 F.O.B. Bellingham, WA.

For details on the design, see: Mariner 31

Actually, it has a better layout and interior space than both the K-40's and Oh Joy.

Did the underlying plywood on the coach house delam?

Re: For Sale: 1969 Mariner 31 Ketch, Freshly Restored !

No it didn't. There were some cracks in the glass overlay and some poor bedding of the cabintop handrails but we stripped the glass and pulled all hardware to address any hidden issues. We treated the ply with CPES (clear penetrating epoxy) and will rebed the hardware after the new glass is laid up. The only rot issue was a face board in the hard dodger, which I pulled and rebuilt with new Sapele (African Mahogany). It's a very nice wooden hard dodger and would be really sweet in crappy conditions with a remote autopilot.

Also, this boat has hot and cold pressure water (which I haven't gotten around to checking yet), nice newish propane oven/stove, an old autopilot (disconnected), small woodstove, refrigeration. It has a compass, VHF and older wind instruments. As far as I know, it comes with Jib, Main and Mizzen. It has a Jib furler of unknown quality (it worked).

They are very cute boats. I checked one for sale in Kona Hi. that had delam on the cabin sides. It had been neglected for far too long. It had progressed to a point to where penetrating epoxy was out of the question. Glad you were able to restore that one...

It would be nice to see some shots of the boat. It is hard to commit to purchase without any photos ( at least). I seen sales brochure, but this is not the same.

True, she's in paint at the moment and the weather has been horrible. I don't want to screw the paint up. As soon as she's done with paint. I'll post up.

I got the topcoat on yesterday and plan to do touch up today. I'll have photos of the hull, (without the barrier coat and bottom paint being done), tomorrow I'm hoping. If the interior is clean, I'll be able to get in and snap some shots of it too.

Ok, I promised some pictures of the M-31 so here some are. It was dark today and the interior, as well as the rest of the boat is a work in progress so it's a mess.
Port Bow old paint:

Dinette (it's a mess):

The head has doors from the salon and the forward berth. The hanging locker's full size door doubles as the cabin door. The interior will be painted and the brightwork refinished as well. I haven't decided whether or not to put the hard dodger back on. I like it myself. so, there it is in it's messy state but you guys wanted to see it.

Thanks for posting what pictures you could, Charlie. Because we know the stellar quality of your work, there's no question the finished product will be a real jewel. Can't wait to see the pictures of her in all her (restored) glory!
