Oh! I guess Edo will read N2K or will you have to "translate" this into 0183? Didn't check for this.

This like many other programs only speaks 0183.

Re: EDO virtual instruments for sailors

Story, I missed the pertinent point with my post. While we have N2K gear, the data steam to EDO is from a N2K-0183 converter wifi bridge. It too is relatively new, and I do not think it is using old protocols.

Meanwhile there are several good ways to do the translation. Most modern MFDs will do it. Then there are the Actisense devices, and a number of others.

None commercially to signalk from 2000, yet.....

http://digitalyacht.net/2015/12/12/i...ends-15th-dec/

Or from 0183 with a $5 raspberry pi zero and a few bits will wifi nmea and signalk round your boat. Can't be long before we're using html5 pages like this to view data on any device...

Re: EDO virtual instruments for sailors

I would like to be a beta tester, I added several items to predict wind when it came out, I am a delivery Capt'n, offshore sailing instructor, a EE, Etec, and a marine electronics installer, trouble shooter, my resume and credentials are very much inline to test and suggest changes, bugs, for many years I have worked with many navigation programs, max sea, ray tech, nobeltec, garmin, chetco, Navionics, just to mention a few, more detailed qualification available upon request.
Thank You Very Much My FRIEND.

Re: EDO virtual instruments for sailors

I have been integrating my own software and hardware wifi bridge into this on my liveaboard yacht. So far so good.
Nmea0183 is still very much in vogue. I only design using this format as it is easier to integrate. N2K is still evolving and costs a lot of money to get access to the protocols.
N2K is really just a way to lock people into manufacturers equipment vie connectors etc.
As an engineer, seatalk1 is more common than N2k or 183. Just convert seatalk1 to nmea and you are in a winner. Easy to diagnose and repair.

Any feedback is appreciated.
Looks a great application..... one real point that would make this usable for me, would be to allow the iPad app at least to be able to be run landscape.... I use my pad as a plotter at the helm as well and it is mounted in landscape mode, so renders you app less than useful.

Kind regards

Re: EDO virtual instruments for sailors

It was no update in this thread for years. I wonder if they still working on project or it was abandoned? Copyright on page says 2015...
They've used wrong strategy - were trying to sell unfinished product. They would gain much more popularity if made it free to testers AND improve it constantly according to testers results. When it'd become more polished, start selling it.
It looks too nice to be abandoned, though.

Re: EDO virtual instruments for sailors

Still no updates even from those of us who purchased the android version.
Email remain unanswered for over 6 months. I am not game to register any more versions.....i think this project has died. Such a pity as i like what they did.

You are correct. Their website is operating but nothing else. Sad.
