Brad to my knowledge the lowest price a PDQ 44 basic (not the more equipped "I" model) has sold for was a 2005 model which which went for 450k in 2008/ early 2009 the lowest part of the recession.

MDSilvers had ordered a new Antares 44 after having visited the new factory. He was very impressed with their facility, the attention to detail and the quality of their work. I have no time to search right not, but I believe it was a thread under the heading Antares 44.

Brad you're correct MDSilvers post is in the thread started by KairosKona entitled Antares 44I in late 2009.
As I reviewed it the thread there are a couple of other references to pricing including MDSilver's comment that the 2005 basic boat need about 100k spent on it to bring it up to 44i specs. Having been on the boat myself in 2008 I would say 100-150 additional.

We are enjoying the boat immensely especially having finally brought Indigo home to the San Francisco Bay.
We have just finished upgrading to new (glass windscreen, latest cockpit seats etc.
The after sales service by Antares - willingness to make and ship the upgrades from Argentina has been phenomenal.

2005 Anatres 44, 299,934 pounds sterling
2001 PDQ 42 (essentially the same as the 44), $226.636.00
2000 PDQ 42, $212,686.00

These are roughly comparable boats from each manufacturer and while I cannot speak to inventory or condition, one of the Privilege 42's (the 2000) is listed for only about 57K more than a PDQ 42 of the same vintage; and the 45's, while a bit older, bracket the price of the PDQ Antares 44.

You have to bear in mind that a much larger number of Privilege boats in that size range have been built and that the PDQ is virtually unknown in Europe; since more people are familiar with the Privilege it shouldn't surprise that the demand (and hence re-sale values) are going to be a bit stronger. Furthermore, as has been mentioned, the fact that PDQ went out of business would also tend to cause concern in the minds of some potential buyers.

Well, I was trying to register as a new member and I give up. Something must be wrong with their site for new members. It says that I will receive and email with further instructions but I never received it. I also emailed them telling the this and no response after several days and attempts. I don't get it.

I think that my top two boats are the PDQ 42 and the PDQ/Antares 44. After that the St Francis 44 then I'd go to the Priviledge. The chances of being able to afford an Antares 44 is pretty slim unless then come down in price alot. But an older PDQ 44 and the 42 are possibilities. The problem is that one does not see them on the market very much.

I love the idea of buying a fully spec'ed boat esp living in Asia where any upgrade would cost big bucks. The issue with the Antares is it's interior looks pretty dated. Having said that I have no 1st hand experience so may not best the best to comment...

The Privileges are tough boats. I've been on several, and the selection of components from the factory are top notch. They are also suprising fast given their cruising orientation.

The Antares 44i compares size-wise to the Privilege 445 or Series 4.5. The biggest differences are in layout - the Privilege offering the one, large owner's cabin up front, and the Antares offering the owner's cabin in its own hull.
The galleys are also very different. Antares has a much larger galley than the 445, and although it's "galley down" it's more like a split level, and still very open to the saloon.
The finishes are comparable although the Antares has real teak and holly floors, and the Privilege uses marine plywood floors.
The Privilege can be customized more than the Antares can.
Both are very fine boats IMHO

In a sense, the P 435/445 galley is up/down. The fridge/stove/oven/sinks and some cabinets are up, but the freezer and lots more cabinets are down.

Nothing wrong with a little exercise when cooking, eh?
