Future of Antares

Hi all

I have heard rumors that the Antares company may be in financial trouble? Please could someone with close ties to the company and ownership of the company please either confirm or deny this rumor for me? In considering a boat we want to ensure the company is is good hands long into the future?

Where are the boats built?
What is the current range of models?
Lead time for a slot?

Would also love to hear from any owners what your build experiences with the company have been like, especially of late?

Thanks for the info.

Are they only building on behalf of the Antares company or do they also own the Antares Brand and the Antares design?

Re: Future of Antares

We just took delivery of a new Antares 44 earlier this month in San Fernando, Argentina. Start to finish was about 15 months though we researched this decision of several years. These boats just keep getting better and the builders at 40 Grados Sur are committed to customer satisfaction. The Argentina factory is in full production and was taking new orders at the boat show">Annapolis Boat Show this month.

We've heard other cruisers around the Bahamas mention that they were in trouble as well.

Re: Future of Antares

There is an article in the current issue of Mulihulls Quarterly (part of BlueWater Sailing) about Antares. Apparently a new financial backer has joined the operation and has worked with the general manager of the boatyard to improve efficiency and throughput.

They've come up with a way to improve output from 5 boats to 6 per year which they believe will make them more financially stable.

Would be curious if anyone has first hand info.

I think they must be in trouble, their website now contains more blatant adverts, pop ups and fake prizes for goods they obviously are trying to make some money that way. I was tempted to contact them and say that they are making a once quality respected manufacturers website a joke but feared I'd never get rid of the resulting junk mail.

I think they were either hacked or had a bad javascript library. The site was fine, but when you selected a drop down, a pop up was triggered. I sent them an email, and just checked and it looks much better. I wouldn't imply anything about the health of the company from some website challenges.
