Wind Generator Pole Height

Im about to order my new pole for the wind genny, and I want to know what height to mount it off the deck. Im assuming at this stage highest person onboard plus a good margin to the bottom of the blades?


Any knowledge on this would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, it's not a "pole." It's a mast.

The height of the mast needs to be at least 7' PLUS the diameter of the blades. Otherwise, you might decapitate crew.

If your generator has 2' blades, then you'll need, at minimum, a 9' clearance.

(And that 9' number seems fairly standard for factory-supplied wind generator masts.)

Realize that the higher the generator is mounted, the better the wind it will get.

Tall enough that you cannot reach up and touch the blades, otherwise possible big OUCH

Stuck mine on top of the mizzen mast on a pole, more for air flow though, but can't hurt myself with it there...
